L'Hiver, Winter, Bronze Sculpture, Lost Wax Method , Romantic, Florence, Italy

By Matthew James Collins

Located in Houston, TX

L'Hiver, which is French for winter. An evocative title which pretty much explains the piece. Number 1 out of a production of Seven. Artist Statement: I am very happy to announce that two of my bronze works are now available in a limited edition of 7. The first one, shown above, is my vision of Eros. He is more popularly known in the Roman interpretation of a chubby baby or young boy with an bow and arrow. I have always been more intrigued with the original Greek embodiment of the this deity as a young man. More than the god of love, Eros was a personification of the power of creation. He was balanced by his antithesis was Thanatos, that of destruction. In fact, Thanatos is currently in the design process. This work will exist in an edition of 7 and 2 artist's proofs. Each piece is hand chased by myself and I apply the patina as well. The sculpture was created using the Lost Wax...

"Gitmo" - Limited Edition Fine Art Print

By Plastic Jesus

Located in West Hollywood, CA

This entire series was inspired by a piece of graffiti by the street artist Banksy in the UK. Nick Stern - who ironically has been called the Banksy of Los Angeles and goes by the street name "Plastic Jesus" -decided to set himself the challenge to recreate the original Banksy graffiti with as much accuracy as possible, including the texture of the walls where the stencils were on and the windows on the buildings here in Los Angeles. Most were recreated “in situation”, without any photo shop. Only two works “The Maid” and “The Lovers” required minimal photoshop. Nick is English as is Banksy but based in Los Angeles so finding brick walls or a sash window was fun to find for the shoots. All photographs are printed to order and signed, with a certificate of authenticity signed by Wallspace. They are printed on 20”x16”paper with a border included - be aware that images may not all be exactly the same size as the imagery has different layouts. The paper size will be framed to the same size. The paper is a heavy weight fine art paper Entrada. fine art print...

'Ready for Marriage' original stone Shona sculpture signed by Washington Msonza

'Ready for Marriage' original stone Shona sculpture signed by Washington Msonza

By Washington Msonza

Located in Milwaukee, WI

'Ready for Marriage' is an original opal serpentine sculpture signed by the Zimbabwean artist Washington Msonza. The sculpture features a single elegant figure in a flowing gown, standing tall and averting her gaze as she clutches the veil that envelops her. Msonza emphasizes the materiality of the work, as is so desired of artists trained in the Shona tradition, by differentiating between the dark, smooth polish of her skin and the lighter textured surface of her clothes. Even more, passages of the surface are left in the serpentine's rough natural state, allowing the green-colored stone to contrast with the red-orange oxidization of its environment. opal stone (serpentine) 33 x 12 x 12 inches signed "Msonza W" on reverse along base Overall good condition; some minor scratches, likely as the sculpture left artist's studio. Base in photographs is not attached and is included at request of buyer. Washington Msonza was born in 1966 in Domboshava where he attended primary school. He then moved to Chitungwiza to attend secondary schooling. While in school, he spent most of his time watching his sculptor brother-in-law Albert Mamvura, whose workshop was close to his house. In 1988 Msonza began assisting Albert full time, while simultaneously gaining experience by watching other well known artists in the area including Gedion Nyanhongo...

Hungarian Prison - Original Lithograph by Pietro Morando - 1950s

Hungarian Prison - Original Lithograph by Pietro Morando - 1950s

By Pietro Morando

Located in Roma, IT

Hungarian prison is an original artwork realized by Italian artist Pietro Morando (Alessandria 1889- 1980). Original Lithograph. Good conditions, except for the pale yellowish stain on the sheet. Hand-signed on the lower right in pencil and titled. Numbered on the lower left, the edition of 7/75 prints. Pietro Morando (Alessandria 1889- 1980). He occasionally studies at the Albertina Academy in Turin; a scholarship (1913) allows him to enroll in painting courses at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. He meets Angelo Morbelli whose studio he frequents and temporarily shares the passion for pointillism. His love for drawing led him to produce numerous works, even using the poor means of luck that the First World War allowed him. He thus realizes tragic war drawings (almost a reportage) which will then be published in the volume "The Giants", with the presentation of the sculptor Leonardo Bistolfi of Casale Monferrato. For decades he frequented the Milanese studio of Carlo Carrà, with whom he shares, as well as friendship, also comparisons and cultural exchanges in the field of painting. It stands out for its simple and incisive style and intense color and decisive features, with which it gives strength and life, but also poetry, to its subjects, almost always the poor people, porters, and peasants, as well as glimpses of his city and Monferrato countryside. He exhibits at the Turin Promoter since 1920 and participates in the Rome Quadriennale and the Milan Triennale. He exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 1924, 1926, 1928, 1932, 1934, 1948, 1950, 1956. The exhibitions at the promoter of the fifties were held together with the younger Alexandrian Franco Sassi, a pupil of Bozzetti and a great admirer of the painter in question. Morando's works can be found at the Italian War History...

His work appeared prominently on covers & editorial pages of LIFE, TIME, PARIS MATCH, SATURDAY EVENING POST, COLLIERS, and other major international publications. Gigli's groundbreaking portraits include Sophia Loren (at age 21), Anita Ekberg, Marcel Duchamp, John F. Kennedy, Halston, Gina Lollobrigida, Diana Vreeland, Giancarlo Giannini, Marlene Dietrich, Judy Garland, Sir Laurence Olivier, Alan Bates, Richard Burton, & many more. Most of these images have not been widely seen since they first appeared over four decades ago. Gigli worked more like a film director than a photojournalist. His ability to earn his subjects' trust in his vision -- often during complicated, uncomfortable, even dangerous setups -- was as important to the photos as his technical finesse with the camera. His disarming way with his subjects is evident in the revealing anecdotes of the people and times he so vividly recalls. He was welcomed backstage on Broadway as readily as he was in the private lives of celebrities. Some of Gigli's favorite photographs were self-assigned, international award-winners, such as "Girls in the Windows...
