Neal Slavin, a native New Yorker, began photographing groups in 1972. He quickly realized that shooting in color yielded greater nuance and detail, placing him among the first generation of photographers, along with William Eggleston and Joel Meyerowitz, to fully embrace color.
Over the past four decades, Slavin has recorded hundreds of groups from the most obscure to the most celebrated, both in the US and abroad: Sabrett Hot Dog vendors, NYC; The Silurian Border Morris Men, Herefordshire; the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Salt Lake City; Elephant Keepers with Katie and Kumara, Bedfordshire; and the Mahayana Buddhist Service, NYC.
He has published three books: “Portugal” (Lustrum Press, 1971), “When Two or More Are Gathered Together” (Farrar Straus Giroux, 1974); and “Britons” (Aperture, 1986). Born in Philadelphia, Andrew Herzog is a multi-disciplinary artist and designer currently working in New York City. Herzog creates a variety of works that explore the relationship between the viewer and the artist with themes of accessibility and prioritized sight, often taking the form of photographs, books, films, site-specific sculptures and interactive performances, objects and drawings. Herzog defines “prioritized sight” as how we choose, consciously or unconsciously, the things we see; what we engage or empathize with; and what we understand or misinterpret, with varying degrees of implication.
Herzog received an MA in Graphic Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design. He was the co-founder and partner at the design and technology studio HAWRAF, and led projects at the Google Creative Lab focusing on AI, creative tools and accessibility. Also, Herzog is adjunct professor at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Herzog has lectured and exhibited works at the A4 Art Museum, Chengdu, Sichuan, China; The Franklin Institute, Philadelphia, PA; Q21 MuseumsQuartier Wien, Vienna, Austria; and The National Museum of Art of Romania; among others.

"This artwork combines two photographs - one taken in Borana, Kenya from above Pride Rock and the other taken 4000 km south at Kevin Richardson’s famous lion sanctuary where we created a massive replica of Pride Rock. It was a joint idea between my team and Kevin’s and fund raising for Kevin’s crusade was integral to the project. No better year to do this than in 2019 - the year Disney rereleased Lion King. We hope to raise a meaningful amount from this image for Kevin’s continual task of building awareness of the plight of the lion. The lion has no better friend in Africa.
Pride Rock is the spiritual home of the movie and I wanted to work around this physical location in much the same way as Disney. e backdrop, 1,000 feet below, is quintessential East Africa, but the problem is that lion rarely venture onto the rock. at part of the job had to be done in South Africa. e angles and the light had to blend perfectly in order for the composite to work and we spent many hours planning at both locations.
The biggest challenge was not the light - both images were taken with the camera pointing in the same direction about 45 minutes after sunrise. We knew if we gave it a few days we would get similar clear sunrises in both locations. A tougher issue was to have the same trajectory in both locations and we ended up hiring a cherry picker...
