"Touring Monument Valley" - Desert Plein Aire Landscape in Acrylic on Masonite
Dramatic desert landscape by California Plein Aire artist Nick White (American, 1943-2009). The viewer stands at a dirt road that winds its way through the desery valley. The valley floor or covered in dusty green plants, with red-orange soil peeking through. In the distance, massive cliffs rise from the horizon, rendered in contrasting yellows and dark grey-blue. The sky is streaked with wispy clouds.
Artist's name and information written on verso.
Unsigned, but was acquired from the artist's estate with a collection of his work.

Nick White (American, 1943-2009) began painting in the early 1970s with some early success Later in life, White was a member (and board member) of the Los Gatos Art Association. He founded the Plein Air group, which he ran until 2009. He was a dedicated painter, leading many excursions regardless of group size. He preferred to paint in acrylic, as its quick-drying properties allowed him to “work fast and loose in the style of the early California impressionists.” Two of his paintings were selected for the Fiesta de Artes Posters in 2004 and 2005.
