Antique Kashmiri Indian Silver Meenakari Enamel Hexagonal Box c1900 A finely worked antique silver hexagonal box from Kashmir, dating to the late 19th / early 20th century. Decorated throughout with crisp hand-chased floral and foliate designs, highlighted with rich blue and turquoise enamel panels in the traditional Kashmiri manner. The hinged lid opens to a fully gilded interior, with matching chased decoration to the underside of the lid, indicating a good quality piece. The workmanship is sharp and consistent across all panels. Condition: Very good antique condition with minimal wear; enamel remains bright and intact. Initially crafted from iron or bronze, over time they became more decorative in nature and more for show as the waring Samurai clans disbanded and became part of Japan's past. The particular Tsuba features an imprinted/hammered repeating pattern of stars or cherry blossoms design perhaps. These are a very good pair of antique Ming style Chinese foo or lion dog sculptures, sometimes called temple lions, made of bronze, with good detail, which we date to the late Qing or early Republic period of the 20th Century, Circa 1920. These pieces are well cast with very good detail, showing wear and a good natural patination to the high points as expected from use and polishing over a long period, the lustrous copper bronze metal below.
