Allan Ardies Figurative Paintings

Allan Ardies (1918 - 2014) was a distinguished Northern Irish landscape painter whose career spanned more than seven decades. Born in Belfast, he began painting professionally in 1941 and became widely admired for his evocative depictions of Ireland's countryside, particularly the Glens of Antrim, County Donegal, Achill Island and other scenic regions of Ulster. Working primarily in oils, Ardies developed a highly recognisable style characterised by luminous natural light, rich seasonal colour and an exceptional sensitivity to atmosphere. His paintings capture the quiet beauty of winding woodland paths, rolling hills, rugged coastlines and tranquil rural settings, celebrating the timeless relationship between people and the landscape. Rather than striving for dramatic spectacle, Ardies found inspiration in the peaceful, everyday beauty of the Irish countryside, creating compositions that invite reflection and convey a profound sense of place. Throughout his distinguished career he exhibited with both the Royal Ulster Academy Association and the Royal Ulster Academy, earning a respected reputation among collectors of Irish art.
