Carle Blenner (1862 - 1952)
Carle Blenner was born in Richmond, Virginia, and received his education in Marburg, Germany. Blenner relocated to Paris to attend the Academie Julian after graduating from the Art School at Yale University. In Paris, Blenner studied under many famous French Salon painters including William Adolphe Bouguereau, Robert Fleury & Aman-Jean. Blenner was known for his great attention to the details surrounding his subjects. He was also an expert in depicting flowers.
During his career, Blenner participated in many art clubs throughout America, including Newport Art Association, Washington Art Club, The Alliance for American Artists, The Academy of Fine Arts, the New Haven Paint and Clay Club and the Salmagundi Club. Exhibiting frequently home and abroad, Blenner made many contributions to the domestic and international art scene. Blenner’s works can be seen in the collections of Columbia University, University of Vermont, Rutgers University, University of Cleveland, Fort Worth Museum of Fine Art and Houston Museum of Fine Art.
