Very nice post-modern 'Quark' desk designed by Achille Castiglioni and manufactured by BBB Bonacina, Italy 1982. The Quark series included multiple desks designed as a modular system. The desks have a consistent structure and customers could customize the side parts and cabinets according to their preferences. These desks are made of beech wood painted in black. Each desk has containers on both sides each equipped with three drawers. On the back of these containers, there is an open space suitable for placing items like books. The frame of the desk is made of a sturdy triangular wooden structure featuring an angled plywood rib on the inner side. Achille Castiglioni with Trac re-enacts the notion of folding table, experimenting with his workhorse: the redesign of anonymous objects that have survived use and time and can be enhanced with minimal modifications. With a modernity that is ahead of his time, he experiments with concepts such as multifunctionality, transformability, mobility. Lightweight, square in shape, Trac has simple, elegant folding legs and refined joints that are easy to manoeuvre. Ideal for storage once folded. Achille Castiglioni, son of the sculptor Giannino and Livia Bolla, he graduated from the Milan Polytechnic in 1944; after graduating he worked in the studio of the older brothers Livio and Pier Giacomo in Milan, devoting himself to urban planning, architecture, exhibitions and product design projects. In 1944, together with his brothers, he took part in the VII Triennale di Milano. Achille Castiglioni's design has always been based on a search for functionality, also through the functional reuse of objects already present in production. In 1956 he was one of the founders of ADI, the Association for Industrial Design. BBB emmebonacina, with its 50 years of experience in the production of contemporary furniture, can boast a collection that brings together many of the successes of Italian design in the world, which place it in a prominent position in the international production scene. The spirit of the company, which can be traced back to the desire to interpret contemporary culture, is demonstrated by excellent collaborations such as those, among many others, with Achille Castiglioni, Paolo Ferrari, De Pas D'Urbino Lomazzi, Italo Luppi, Carlo Santi, Giogio Decursu, Laura Griziotti...
