Education and experience :
Graduated from Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata, and Delhi Polytechnic (Delhi College of Art).
In 1996 retired as professor of Painting, College of Art, New Delhi University. Published books on art. Founded a number of art groups and initiated art activities.
Exhibitions :
Held over 100 solo shows in major cities of India and 20 one-man shows abroad in USA, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Singapore, and Sweden.
Participated in several group shows, national and international, including one in Geneva in 1979 with Miro, Dali, Calder, Cavalli, Pozzi, and Sugai. Received 15 awards, including the National Award from Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi.
Awards :
1950 - Received the Governors Medal, West Bengal.
1959 - Received award for his water colour painting, Govt. College of Art and Craft, Calcutta.
1961 - Received award for his graphic art, Delhi Polytechnic, New Delhi.

In artist Gail Ragains' figurative piece, a woman takes a breather on the beach. She reclines comfortably on a green chair, in a mix of gestural marks within a thought-out composition. The muted color combination allows the warm and cool shades to play off each other.
About the Artist
Artist Gail Ragains paints abstract figurative works defined by strong color combinations and intuitive mark-making. "I approach each creative process as an open-ended improvisation," says Gail. "It is an evolving journey without preconceived plans for a predictable outcome. I react to the materials at hand, stripping away the non-essentials to give a loose interpretation of form, movement, and human expression." Inspired by the physical gestures and emotions of people, the human figure dominates Gail's art. As a young person, Gail was active in dance, ice skating, and gymnastics and competed in triathlons in her 20s. While pursuing a career as a massage therapist for 25 years, Gail simultaneously attended art classes through community colleges, the local Art League, and workshops with artists she admires. Having lived in California her entire life, Gail is influenced by the California colors—golden hills, clear blue skies, swimsuits, and swimming pools. Today, her studio is in her backyard just a few steps away from the home she shares with her husband. “In this workspace, I have everything I need. Good light, music, fresh air, and my studio mate, Sadie, the cutest 14 lb. mixed-breed rescue pup.â€

Motke Blum was born in Racacun, Romania in 1925. Early in his childhood, the Blum family moved to Bucharest where they settled in a house situated near a circus. The circus would become young Blum's greatest love. He befriended several of the clowns and other performers and, when not painting or playing in clay, Blum could be found enjoying the company of these spirited entertainers. These experiences would later become a recurring theme in many of his works of art.
In 1938, he was taken by the Romanian Iron Guard. When the Germans invaded Romania, Blum was taken to a forced labor camp. Even during his imprisonment, he continued to create art, painting on the walls of the camp. He escaped the Nazi camp in 1944 and boarded an immigrants' ship to Israel. One of the three ships in the convoy was sunk by a German torpedo. Motke later incorporated shipwrecks, boats, and other maritime subjects into several of his paintings.

Over the course of his long and fruitful career, Blum showed internationally at over fifty one-man-shows with exhibits in Israel, Holland, England, Belgium, the United States, France, Australia, and more. His art has been commissioned for public buildings and by prominent figures in Israel and around the world, and a series of posters were commissioned by the Justice Ministry and the Ministry of Tourism.
