A striking and complex modernist still life by French painter Guy Nicod, this richly layered gouache on paper reveals the artist’s fascination with light, reflection, and form. The composition centres on a tabletop arrangement of domestic objects—a green cup, amber jug, and round lampshade or glass dome—arranged against a deep, moody background of indigo, umber, and crimson. Beneath the main grouping, a smaller vignette of fruit, garlic bulbs, and a dish adds texture and warmth, grounding the composition in a sense of everyday intimacy.
