During the Georgian Period, the Austro-Hungarian Empire became a notable place to purchase some of the most finely crafted jewelry in the world. By the 1800’s, jewelers of this region began combining shimmering experimental pastes, precious and semi-precious gemstones, seed pearls and enamel into mountings crafted in fine silver with gold vermeil and elaborate filigree metalwork. This important drop necklace, with six Mother of Pearl festoons, integrates a romantic combination of rose-cut garnets, rubies, delicate seed pearls, and a variety of old pastes into divine Austro Hungarian links with a bold drop. Jill has created a wonderfully ornate chain comprised of eight antique Austro Hungarian links and ten newly-cut natural garnet cabochons. Each deep red oval garnet is exquisitely mounted within a beaded filigree frame.
