Judith Simonds Figurative Paintings

American
Judith grew up 15 miles north of Milwaukee in the town of Mequon, Wisconsin, an old mid-western farming community transformed into a suburb during the early 1950's. It was there that she acquired a deep fascination and connection with nature due to the numerous open fields and woodlands. In 1991, Judith received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Austin, Texas to attend graduate school. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1994. Judith has been working with clay and painting for over thirty years. Her work is in private collections, and has been included in numerous invitational, and juried shows throughout the United States. She has also received various honors, awards and grants throughout her career. Judith continues to live and work in Austin, Texas. She has been an Adjunct Associate Professor, at Austin Community College for twenty years. Judith has also taught at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, and a Lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin.

Mighty oak on a gold-leaf background by Italian botanical artist

By Margherita Leoni

Located in Milan, IT

The artist has an elegant mark of nature, and the experience of working en plein air allows her to capture emotions that would otherwise not be possible. She is considered Italy's best botanical artist and collaborates with many botanical gardens where she also holds watercolour courses, a technique she masters like few contemporary artists. The artist herself prepared the background in real, stainless gold, which gives it a modern, warm surface that chameleonically matches the colours of the surrounding walls. Margherita Leoni was born and raised in Italy, however, she spent most of her adult life in San Paulo, Brazil. It was there that she started a collaboration with the botanical faculty of the local university, allowing her to develop interesting research in rare botanical species studies and drawings. For this reason, most of her artworks, illustrate Brasilian botanical species, both rare and common. The artist's mastery of watercolour allows her to take part in botanical expeditions where she paints in plein air. Given her exquisite watercolour technique and her extensive botanical knowledge, Margherita Leoni is considered the heir of Margaret Mee. Among her most important exhibitions, three of her artworks were selected by Shirley Sherwood...

Avant le Déjeuner, by Grégoire Mathias – Still Life with Wine Bottles and Glass

By Grégoire Mathias

Located in PÉRIGUEUX, FR

Avant le Déjeuner (Before Lunch) Acrylic on canvas board 16 × 24 cm (without frame) 35.5 x 43.5 x 4 cm (with frame) Signature: Lower left; also inscribed on verso Condition: Excellent, presented in a gilded frame In Avant le déjeuner (“Before Lunch”), Grégoire Mathias creates a playful and vibrant still life where bottles of wine, a glass, and a red-checkered cloth are arranged against the backdrop of the sea. The bold shapes and saturated colors lend the work a festive, almost theatrical quality, echoing the traditions of Synthetic Cubism while infusing it with Mathias’s characteristic rhythm and modern eye. Painted in acrylic on canvas board, the piece is framed in a substantial gilded frame that enhances its presence. Despite its intimate size, the composition radiates with energy, suggesting both the convivial anticipation of a shared meal and the joy of Mediterranean light. Signed lower left, this work reflects Mathias’s ability to turn everyday objects into striking compositions of color, balance, and narrative. Perfect For Collectors of Cubist-inspired still lifes Interior designers looking for colorful, conversation-piece artworks for kitchens, dining rooms, or entertaining spaces Buyers seeking affordable yet highly collectible paintings by Mathias Collector's Insights Small-format oils such as this offer an ideal entry point into Mathias’s oeuvre. They combine the immediacy of his vision with accessibility, while holding strong potential for appreciation as his international recognition and market continue to grow.
