Who / what can we believe? Who / what can we trust? How real is our view of the world? And how is that perspective angled, and ultimately limited? These are the issues at the heart of my work as an artist. Painting, drawing, engraving and embroidery give me the freedom to approach my subjects from an ambivalent and flexible standpoint. I am building up a dynamic body of work, like pieces that you can put together in one way or another to shape different structures, pierced with numerous openings. And the title that I give each piece acts as a possible clue as to how to enter inside that system. I can portray both softness and monstrosities. I focus on the links and barriers lying between living beings and their surroundings, and evoke how permeable these connections are. My aim is not to create a visual documentary reporting fact, but rather immerse myself in observing everyday life, and in a host of images depicting real events (pictures, photos and videos). Instilled with these images, I can give a more personalized, unique and allegorical vision of the world around me. I am also interested in the key transition periods of human existence, those turning points that forge our identity within a family, a group, and society as a whole at the heart of a specific environment. I centre on what makes up and creates cohesion (rituals, myths and tales….), and indeed the opposite - what leads to life becoming shattered, hindered and frustrated (moving populations, exile and migration…) Amidst a landscape roaming with wild beasts and hybrid creatures, between love and separation, metaphors for our own desires and fears lie in hiding, or reveal themselves in the painted or embroidered spaces. Sometimes they are etched with lines, symbols and tiny architectural designs. These works might depict our inner landscapes, as if harking back to a primordial and cosmic point of origin. My most recent collections recreate the images of bodies or landscapes using abstract zones and figurative details that have no direct link with either anatomy or geography. Intimacy and the unspeakable are themes that run throughout my work, and I make sure to incorporate areas of both visual tension and relief, so as to give the viewer the space to project him or herself into the work. An original lithograph on thin wove paper by French artist Ludovic Alleaume (1859-1941) titled "Phalene et Feux Follets", 1904. Edition size unknown. Printer unknown and published by Revue de l'Art Ancien & Moderne in Paris, France. Comes with original tissue cover sleeve. Presently archivally hinged to a light beige backing paper as originally issued. Sheet size: 8.13" x 5.75". Image size: 7.75" x 5.5". A strong impression in excellent condition. Beautiful piece. This review was founded in 1897 in the continuity of the review Les Beaux-Arts published between 1861 and 1865; Jules Comte, the founder, entitled his first issue Les Beaux-Arts - Revue nouvelle then changed the title to La Revue de l'art ancien et moderne. Jules Comte directed the review until his death in 1912. Raymond Woog took over , who was provisional director until the start of the war in July 1914. In 1919, André Dezarrois took over this review and was its director until December 1937, date of last issue (published in January 1938). In the meantime, it publishes the Bulletin of ancient and modern art, which has gained a certain notoriety in the community. Ludovic Alleaume is born 24 March 1859 Angers, Maine-et-Loire . He is the son of Augustus Symphorien Alleaume (1821-1895) and Rose Hodée (1827-1909) . His father is the author of Patents of Invention, containing watches, published in 1873 . Student of the Regional School of Fine Arts of Angers from the artist Eugène Brunclair he became apprentice painters decorators in Angers. He then joined the School of Fine Arts in Paris where he was admitted in the workshops of Ernest Hébert and Luc-Olivier Merson ). Ludovic Alleaume is primarily a portraitist . In 1883, he started the Salon of French artists . He is the brother of Auguste Alleaume , stained glass specialist. Multidisciplinary artist, he participated in his workshop in Laval from 1893 to 1937, also working with his other brother Paul (1856-1940), editor-cutter. It also produces wall murals along with Ladislas Dymkovski , related to his family. It is he who will command the drawings that his brothers and some windows so he worked with Lecomte and Colin in Rennes, Jacques-Philippe Imberton, Henri Carot , Louis-Charles-Marie Champigneulle (1853-1905 ) in Paris, François Comère Brussels Haudecoeur in Lille, and with Pierre-Jules Boulanger (1833-1911), master glassmaker in Rouen. Many times decorated for his painting, he obtained the Legion of Honour in 1927. He works as an illustrator for the magazine of Britain, The Journal of Anjou and The Illustrated World.
