Mikael Takacs Art

Swedish, b. 1989
Mikael Takacs is a marbler based in Stockholm, Sweden. He uses pipettes to distribute acrylic paint across the canvas to create his subjects, which he then distorts by dragging the paint around using various tools, such as sticks and combs. He combines the classic abstract expression of marbling with concrete figures. Variations of this technique has been around for hundreds of years, but in spite of that, his pieces are often mistaken for digital art. Marbling is said to originate in the 12th century Japan as "Suminagashi", and centuries later made it's way to Europe through the Ottoman Empire and the "Ebru" method. Mikael has been able to reinvent the technique existing for more than hundreds of years like no one has been able to do before and at just 32 yrs old. By Arnold Friedman

Located in Miami, FL

Arnold Friedman studied with Robert Henri and Kenneth Hayes Miller at the Art Students League in 1905 . Yet as he developed his style he abandoned the academic influence of his teacher. He started experimenting with materials and techniques. Friedmans intimate style recalls a variety of post-impressionist artists such as Pointillism of Pisarro, Vuillard and Nabis, and perhaps even Seurat. His thick application of paint has definitive textual impasto that was influenced by his trip to Paris in 1909. In "Museum Piece...
