Designed by Javier Mariscal for Moroso in 1995, the Saula Marina two-seater sofa belongs to the iconic "Los Muebles Amorosos" collection—a celebrated series where design meets comic art and playful storytelling. Beyond its striking visual presence, the magic of this piece lies in its organic, rounded contours and expressive overlapping volumes, crafted to evoke an affectionate embrace of forms. Far from merely serving a functional role, it animates living spaces with a bold, post-modern energy and an unmistakable sense of artistic freedom. Rendered in the iconic Version "A" upholstery combination—featuring Divina 3 191 paired with Tonus 100 White fabric (or, in case of unavailability, an equivalent fabric similar in quality and color)—this sofa stands as a vibrant testament to Mariscal’s radical approach to contemporary furniture design. The Moroso & Javier Mariscal Collection Mariscal’s visual culture belongs entirely to the world of comics, a universe from which he draws direct inspiration during his creative process. Saula Marina, along with pieces like Alessandra and Eulalia Perez, seems to step directly off the pages of an underground comix magazine, sharing their signature irony, mild sarcasm, and playful engagement with modern life. Anticonformist, libertarian, and thoroughly post-modern, Mariscal scripts a design narrative from a youthful perspective where lived experience precedes form. A desire for roundness, overlapping shapes, and an affectionate interplay of volumes disconnects these objects from the strictly chronological flow of time, placing them in a world of creative freedom that feels both surreal and intimately connected to our own. Craftsmanship & Materials The Saula Marina sofa...
