Philip Letsu Art

Ghanian
Philip Letsu is a Ghanaian artist currently living and working in Ho, Ghana. Komla’s practice is driven by the significant need to document urban lifestyles and culture. Focusing on the power memories and imagination in relation to representation and identity formation, Philip creates paintings that confronts issues surrounding representation with the intention to document that which is neglected. The artist uses both colors in his subjects, the attire they wear, and the places inhabited to evoke a sense of urban lifestyle and culture, while focusing on the power of memories and imagination. His artistic journey confronts issues surrounding representation with the intention to document that which is neglected: the power of innocence. In his words, Letsu expresses, “My greatest inspiration is the innermost satisfaction derived after a quiet time, when I take some time off to explore positive energies found within to make paintings that feed the visual need and breed the admiration from people." Philip Letsu studied in the prestigious Ghanatta College of Arts and design in Ghana in 2016 - the same school that has produced many significant artists like Amoako Boafo, Otis Kwame, Key Quaicoe, Kwesi Botchway and the likes. He has participated in a number of local exhibitions in the country.
