Poul Henningsen Ph 80 Floor Lamp
By Poul Henningsen, Louis Poulsen
Located in Berkeley, CA
The fixture emits diffuse and symmetrical light. The majority of the light is directed downwards, and the opal acrylic shades provide comfortable room lighting. The red hue of the top reflector helps give the light a warmer glow. Poul Henningsen designed the three-shade system back in 1925-1926. The first lights using the system were designed by PH in cooperation with Louis Poulsen for an exhibition in Paris. This partnership continued up until his death in 1967. Throughout his life, PH sought to create glare-free light, direct light where it was most needed, and create soft shadows, using incandescent bulbs as a light source. PH 80...

Questions About Philippe Hiquily Furniture
- 1stDibs ExpertOctober 24, 2024Here are some interesting facts about Donatello. Unlike many other Italian Renaissance artists, Donatello did not study for years as an apprentice under a master sculptor. His training was instead in goldsmithing and stonemasonry. To convey a sense of motion in his works, Donatello developed a spiraling pose known as "figura serpentinata." Donatello also diverged from his counterparts in his use of materials. While other artists of the time worked exclusively in marble and bronze, Donatello dabbled with wood as well, using it as the material of choice for some of his best-known works, such as The Penitent Magdalene. On 1stDibs, find a large selection of sculptures.
- 1stDibs ExpertNovember 20, 2024Opinions differ as to which sculpture Donatello is best known for. One of his most famous pieces is a carved wood sculpture called The Penitent Magdalene, which is now in the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo in Florence, Italy. Another is a bronze sculpture entitled David. It is presently part of the Museo Nazionale del Bargello collection, also in Florence.
