Steve Schapiro Furniture
American, 1934-2022
A prolific photographer and photojournalist, Steve Schapiro has covered major historical events and captured seminal moments, from Martin Luther King, Jr.’s 1963 march in Selma and Robert F. Kennedy’s 1968 presidential campaign, to Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick in The Factory. “It was an incredible time to be a photojournalist, because there was more of an emotional flow—an ability to do more emotional pictures that captured the spirit of a person,” Schapiro has said of working during the ’60s and ’70s. He credits Henri Cartier-Bresson as a major influence on his work, as well as his former teacher W. Eugene Smith. Among the many politicians and celebrities he has photographed are Mia Farrow, Martin Scorcese, and Barbara Streisand.to

Barbra Streisand by Steve Schapiro and Lawrence Schiller
By Steve Schapiro, Lawrence Schiller
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Pitch perfect.
From Funny Girl to a Star is Born, the meteoric rise of Barbra Streisand.
In 1970 Barbra Streisand published a story in Life magazine titled "Who Am I Anyway?" It was the very question two leading photojournalists of the day—Steve Schapiro and Lawrence Schiller—were also asking as they photographed her during her first five years in Hollywood, working to get beneath the veneer and capture "the real Barbra."
Brimming with photographs—over half of which have never been published before—and stories behind the shots from Schapiro and Schiller, this is a must-have collection for any Streisand fan. All the best movies of Streisand's first Hollywood decade are here: Funny Girl, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, The Way We Were, The Owl and the Pussycat...

Signed Bob Geldoff for Vivienne Westwood Large Format Polaroid Photo, 2008
By Vivienne Westwood
Located in London, GB
An original one-off large format Polaroid photograph of Bob Geldoff & Jeanne Marine for the Vivienne Westwood Active Resistance limited edition book produced by Opus. Photographer Zenon Texeira.
Signed by Bob Geldoff & Jeanne Marine in marker pen.
Large-format polaroids are extremely rare and unique and as the name suggests, they are of a large scale, the visible image dimensions being 52 cm x 67 cm.
It is an autographed and one-off, unreproducible photograph, as there is no negative.
Large Format Polaroids:
The Polaroid 20×24 camera is a very large instant camera made by Polaroid, with film plates that measure a nominal 20 by 24 inches. Throughout its history, it has been used by many famous photographers, including Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol. Ansel Adams also used the camera, notably to make the first official photographic Presidential portrait, of President Jimmy Carter in 1979. To celebrate Lady Gaga's new role as Creative Director of Polaroid, a portrait of her was shot with the 20×24 camera on June 30, 2010, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
This is the actual one-off Large Format Polaroid Photo taken on one of three of these cameras in existence which are soon to be obsolete because no more of the photographic paper can be made.
The rare Polaroid 20 x 24 camera was brought from Prague to Paris and London for three separate photo shoots for The Official Vivienne Westwood Opus. Featuring Vivienne Westwood’s family and friends wearing clothes from her stunning collections, 97 selected Polaroids, shot by Zenon Texeira in black-and-white, colour and sepia, are displayed in the Opus.
The photos were shown in various venues including the Serpentine Gallery in London on a worldwide tour to promote the book.
Participants included: Vivienne Westwood, Pier Vittorio Aureli, Hilary Koob-Sassen, Ingo Niermann & Zak Kyes, Rasheed Araeen, Peter Cook, Richard Wentworth, Gilbert & George, Ben Vautier, Jonas Mekas, Jean-Jacques Lebel, Tom Mccarthy, Mark Wallinger, Yoko Ono, Barbara Steveni, Ekaterina Degot, Raqs media collective, Nathaniel Mellors, Lee Scrivner, Andrea Branzi, Henry Flynt, Marina Abramovic, Agnès Varda, Susan Hefuna, Stephen Willats, Falke Pisano, Adam Pendleton, Jimmie Durham...

Pop Life.
Pictures of Andy Warhol by Steve Schapiro.
In 1965, Steve Schapiro started documenting Andy Warhol for Life magazine: Warhol was cementing a reputation as an important Pop artist who drew his inspiration from popular culture and commercial objects. With his sunglasses, blond wig, and bland public utterances, Warhol was enigmatic, charismatic, intensely ambitious, and aware that to become a star, you needed the presence of people to document your ascent. Schapiro, also ambitious and hardworking, who in his own words “kept quiet and smiled a lot,” was an ideal witness to Warhol’s relentless rise from cult New York artist to 20th-century icon. Ironically, Life never published the story, so many of these images are seen here for the first time, scanned from negatives found deep in Schapiro’s archive.
Between 1965 and 1966, Warhol was at his creative peak. In this period, Warhol turned his life into art and conceived the “Andy Warhol persona”—arguably his greatest masterpiece. Schapiro busily photographed Warhol...
