A beautiful, quite alluring, gorgeously glazed ceramic/pottery vase by renowned Japanese potter/artist Morino Hiroaki Taimei (森野 泰明) Hiroaki Morino (森野 泰明, Morino Hiroaki, born 1934 in Kyoto, known sometimes by his pseudonym as Taimei Morino (森野 泰明, Morino Taimei). This work features a radiant gold glaze over a piercing blue body - a very coveted style of the artist.
The vase is signed with Morino Hiroaki Taimei's incised mark to underside and comes with the original signed and sealed Tomobako wood box as well as a printed biography of the artist with record of awards.
Would be a great addition to any collector's of Morino Hiroaki Taimei's or Japanese/Asian pottery and make for an eye catching stand alone accent artwork in about any setting.

Signed on base with incised signature by Voulkos.
Voulkos is widely considered to be the most important and impactful ceramists of the modern era. He won the Rodin Museum prize at the first Paris Biennale in 1959 and was the winner of a Guggenheim fellowship in 1984. Voulkos received the College Art Association’s Distinguished Artist Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1997. He was made an honorary member of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters in 2001. He also received six honorary.
Doctorate degrees as well as three National Endowment for the Arts awards.

Very unique and scarce work with rare use of color. Very hard to come by. One of our personal favorites along with the Chawan tea bowl.
Signed on base and dated (1961) by Voulkos. This was made during one of his most magical and experimental phases.

A wonderfully designed and exceptionally rare earthenware six bird's head bowl or pot (bird head works are very coveted among collector's of the Heino's work) by ceramics masters husband and wife artists Vivika and Otto Heino. Quite heavy and substantial in Size. The couple were best known for their inspired designs and distinctive glazes.
This massive bowl or pot is signed on the underside and is in very good vintage condition with no discernible flaws. Again, quite rare. We have never seen another like it with this many birds.
Would be the crown jewel in any collection and sure to stand out in any setting.
Dimensions: 10.5" high, 11" diameter

Chinese Pottery Ceramic Glazed Mud Figure of Court Lady Tang Dynasty with Stand

Simply gorgeous and so delicately and beautifully made. This work has been molded in a whitish, dense terracotta, typical of the region of the capital of Luoyang, and then lightly glazed.
We are not sure how to date this work. We believe, based on comparisons, that this piece could date as far back as the Tang dynasty (though we are not experts and have not had this verified by one. Again, this is not our area of expertise). The white terracotta and glaze appear correct as does the figures stately pose and elaborate hairstyle which was a characteristic feature of Tang pottery women. The people of ancient China believed that some part of the essence and life force of a human being was contained in the hair. Much time and effort went into this to create elaborate coiffures that the woman proudly displayed when in public. The Tang dynasty is also the only period in Chinese History to have known a female sovereign - The Empress Wu Zetian (625-706).

Chinese Pottery Ceramic Glazed Mud Figure of Court Lady Tang Dynasty with Stand

Simply gorgeous and so delicately and beautifully made. This work has been molded in a whitish, dense terracotta, typical of the region of the capital of Luoyang, and then attractively glazed over with various yellow, green, brown, colored glazes.
We are not sure how to date this work. We believe, based on comparisons, that this piece could date as far back as the Tang Dynasty (though we are not experts and have not had this verified by one. Again, this is not our area of expertise). The white terracotta and glaze appear correct as does the figures stately pose and elaborate hairstyle which was a characteristic feature of Tang pottery women. The people of ancient China believed that some part of the essence and life force of a human being was contained in the hair. Much time and effort went into this to create elaborate coiffures that the woman proudly displayed when in public. The Tang Dynasty is also the only period in Chinese History to have known a female sovereign - The Empress Wu Zetian (625-706).

A truly beautiful and supremely serene Japanese Amida Nyorai Buddha. A magnificent work.
Meticulously hand carved in such fine and amazing detail (see hands and flowing robes). Gilded throughout. Seated with narrowed eyes in deep meditation and hands in Buddhist Abhaya Mudra position offering a blessing of protection, reassurance, peace, and benevolence. This hand position, also known as the "fear not" gesture, was achieved by Buddha immediately following his enlightenment.
This work is from the late Edo period, (1603-1868)/ early Meiji period (1868-1912).
