Japanese Chinese Asian Two-Panel Byobu Folding Screen Ancestral Immortal Figures

About the Item

A gorgeous, quite large, boldly colored, and alluring hand-painted two-panel Chinese/Japanese/Asian Byobu folding screen depicting 18 exquisitely clad male ancestral or immortal figures and a group of four other what appears to be heavenly figures in the clouds above. We believe this is a Chinese screen done in the Japanese Byobu fashion but the reverse could also be true The painted detail and vivid colors make this quite exceptional. Clearly a special and quite unique work. We have not come across another Byobu screen like it. The colors are amazing. This engaging screen is sure to stand out in almost any collection and/or setting whether used as a room divider or hung carefully on the wall as a work of art. A beautiful and rare work. Likely from the early to mid-1900s but perhaps older. Approximate dimensions when fully extended: 84" high, 90" wide, .5" deep. Approximate folded dimensions: 84" high, 45" wide, 1.5" deep.
