The coat is worked in supple tan suede and follows the traditional trench construction the house has returned to for five decades: a broad point collar, buttoned shoulder epaulettes, a buttoned storm flap at the right chest, buckled adjustable tabs at each cuff, welt and flap pockets at the hip, and a self-belt fastening through a leather-covered buckle. The back carries a shaped storm cape secured by a buttoned strap and falls to a deep inverted vent, allowing the skirt to move cleanly at mid-calf length. Fall 1996 remains one of the most referenced Ralph Lauren seasons, and its outerwear — soft suede and shearling cut on formal tailoring lines — defined the look. This suede trench coat descends directly from that runway, and the house continues to produce the design today in lambskin at full retail.
