Single "Cailloux" Paperweight by Roberto Sambonet for Baccarat, 1977. Rare paperweight from the "Cailloux" or "Pebbles" series designed by Roberto Sambonet for Baccarat in 1975-77. Polished on all sides, its design was meant to recall a sea stone smoothed down by the crashing of the waves. Sambonet also designed the "Cailloux" to highlight the exceptional qualities of Baccarat crystal; feeling weighty and perfectly smooth in the hand, and resembling a crystal clear cube of ice. This 6x6x6cm design was the foundation of the series. Large Danish Paperweight Die in Rosewood and Mother-of-Pearl, Mid-Century Modern. Measures: 2 Inch.

Early Art Glass sculpture by Hiroshi Yamano features a grouping of raising controlled air bubbles in the center of a clear glass disc object. The bubbles are partially enveloped by pale green, pink, and blue colored glass layers that are flowing around and through the central structure. The underside is polished flat, adding clarity to the sculpture and emphasizing the use of negative space in the composition. The sculpture is signed and dated by the artist in etching on the underside; it can be used as a paperweight, if desired. It is contemporary to Yamano's famous "From East to West" series, that he started in the late 1980s, while he was a graduate student at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The sculpture was created in 1988; it is evocative of flowing water and underwater views. While we don't think that the sculpture is a part of the series, it is an important early work and a reflection on his studies. Hiroshi Yamano (b. 1956) is recognized as one of Japan's foremost and innovative glass artists. He attended the California College of Arts and Crafts, the Tokyo Art Institute, and Penland School of Crafts (where he served as an assistant), before receiving his Masters in Fine Arts degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY, in 1989. Yamano began working with glass after seeing an exhibition of Scandinavian glass in Kyoto. At California College of Arts and Crafts he studied under Marvin Lipofsky, learning the creative aspects of glass. In 1986 he worked as an instructor at Leon Applebaum...

Rare Op Art paperweight was hand blown in elongated ovoid shape. The colored rounded central gather has evenly distributed swirls of blue glass with randomly added yellow pigment placed in abstract, graphic pattern, with the whole structure enclosed in clear glass in sommerso technique. Subtle reflections of the central colored core in clear glass part of the paperweight add complexity and visual interest to otherwise minimal piece. The paperweight is signed and dated by the artist in etching on the bottom. Thomas Kelly is an established glass artist working in Vitrix Hot Glass studio in Corning, New York.
