Adjustable wrought iron desk lamp with counterweight, Dutch expressionist ca. 1920. A rare architectural gem from the golden era of Dutch design. This adjustable wrought iron table or piano lamp, dating from the early 1920s, is an exceptional example of the Amsterdamse School movement, famed for its expressive forms, honest materials, and integration of function and sculpture. Crafted entirely by hand, the lamp features a sophisticated three-position height adjustment system via a striking counterweight mechanism, a feat of engineering as elegant as it is utilitarian. The heavy forged iron frame displays bold geometric detailing and honest craftsmanship typical of the movement, with meticulous hammer marks and subtle asymmetry that celebrate the hand of the maker. While unsigned, the design language speaks clearly to the school of Piet Kramer and the greater network of Amsterdamse School designers, whose influence extended into municipal buildings, interiors, and custom furnishings throughout the Netherlands in the 1910s and '20s. This is not just lighting, this is architecture in miniature. The not original hide-like-fabric of the lamp shade is no longer in perfect condition, but it certainly still is good enough to use on this desk lamp. Early Art Glass sculpture by Hiroshi Yamano features a grouping of raising controlled air bubbles in the center of a clear glass disc object. The bubbles are partially enveloped by pale green, pink, and blue colored glass layers that are flowing around and through the central structure. The underside is polished flat, adding clarity to the sculpture and emphasizing the use of negative space in the composition. The sculpture is signed and dated by the artist in etching on the underside; it can be used as a paperweight, if desired. It is contemporary to Yamano's famous "From East to West" series, that he started in the late 1980s, while he was a graduate student at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The sculpture was created in 1988; it is evocative of flowing water and underwater views. While we don't think that the sculpture is a part of the series, it is an important early work and a reflection on his studies. Hiroshi Yamano (b. 1956) is recognized as one of Japan's foremost and innovative glass artists. He attended the California College of Arts and Crafts, the Tokyo Art Institute, and Penland School of Crafts (where he served as an assistant), before receiving his Masters in Fine Arts degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY, in 1989. Yamano began working with glass after seeing an exhibition of Scandinavian glass in Kyoto. At California College of Arts and Crafts he studied under Marvin Lipofsky, learning the creative aspects of glass. In 1986 he worked as an instructor at Leon Applebaum...

This is a beautiful handblown Glass Millefiori Paperweight by Vasart, Scotland, Circa 1950s. This paperweight is handmade with a Millefiori, ten spoke radial cane design. having Latticino Spokes. The predominant colours are red, green, blue and white colour combination gives excellent contrast producing a very distinctive weight. The pontil mark to the base has been ground down giving a somewhat matt finish to the ventral section. There are no makers markings on the base that we can see. VASART HISTORY Pre 1946, Salvador Ysart and his 3 sons were working for Moncrieff Glass, then In September 1946, Salvador Ysart and two of his sons (Vincent & Augustine) established Ysart Brothers Glass (trading as "Vasart", formed from the names 'Vincent', 'Augustine' and 'Salvador'.
