Gold Bird Box Charles Bruguier Circa 1840 An exceptionally rare 19th-century automaton treasure, this gold singing bird box was created by Charles Abraham Bruguier of Geneva circa 1840. One of only a few known examples of its kind, it embodies the extraordinary craftsmanship that has made Bruguier's work among the most coveted mechanical masterpieces of the era. Crafted in gold, the case is richly chased with ivy tendrils, floral scrolls and geometric borders. At its center, a hand-painted enamel oval depicts a beautiful view of Mont Blanc. When the lever is activated, the lid opens to reveal a remarkably lifelike bird adorned with real feathers. As it sings a vibrant melody, the bird turns its head, flaps its wings and tail and rotates with captivating realism. Beneath this enchanting display lies a signed and numbered fusee movement (No. 598) with an intricate eight-cam song sequence, a highly sophisticated mechanism that delivers exceptionally consistent power and an unusually complex, naturalistic birdsong. A lovely mid-century Bavarian porcelain ginger jar with gold trim and gilt details by Hertel-Jacob Porzellan (German, 1906-1979). This large ginger jar is ornately decorated with a highly detailed romantic figurative landscape scene, in which three men depicted in gold enjoy an opulent picnic of wine, meat, and fruit under a tree, in front of a large medieval castle complete with a canon and canon balls. A gold leaf motif decorates the backside of the piece. The signature "Fuchs-Nadler" can be found within the picnic scene, underneath the tray of food and wine. Stamped on bottom with mark "Hertel-Jacob Porzelan / Bavaria Germany", and the serial number 1266. An exceptionally decorative pair of Japanese Gold Imari porcelain vases, hand-painted in Arita, Japan, circa 1960s. Both pieces retain their original “GOLD IMARI – Hand Painted” marks to the underside. Each vase measures approximately 30 cm / 11.8 in. high and 19 cm / 7.5 in. in diameter and weighs approximately 2.5 kg / 5.5 lb., giving the pair an unusually substantial and representative presence. The decoration is particularly attractive. A luminous yellow ground is combined with deep cobalt blue, turquoise, emerald green, soft pink, iron red and delicate gilt accents. Large shaped reserves feature beautifully rendered exotic birds surrounded by flowering branches and lush blossoms. Further floral motifs are distributed across the yellow ground, while the cobalt neck and stylized green leaf border around the base create a highly balanced composition. The quality of the hand-painted decoration is especially evident when viewed closely.
