A Very Large and Rare German Ormolu Mounted Meissen Porcelain Three Piece Clock & Candelabra Garniture Set. This impressive set consists of three pieces: a center clock and two candelabras, each adorned with the most intricate and delicate details that have been executed to perfection. Each three armed candelabra is remarkably elaborate with foliate arms that are embellished with gilt-covered beautifully twisted branches and curling leaves on an ornate botanically-inspired base. Embraced by the arms of the candelabras are two 18th Century Meissen Porcelain figures of musical lovers, dressed in brightly detailed traditional clothes. The round clock face, with roman numerals, a white base, and ornate hands is surrounded by a flourish of gorgeous gilt foliage, exuding an air of elegance and refinement. Gilt bronze and Sèvres style porcelain Louis XVI style casket on stand This magnificent Louis XVI style ormolu casket is supported by a mirror-topped table stand, which sits on four tapered, fluted legs connected by a curving X-form stretcher. In the centre of this stretcher is an ormolu urn decorated with rams heads, four hoof feet and birds on the top. The legs of the table are also ornately decorated with draped garlands and scrolled detailing. The apron is inset with Sèvres style porcelain plaques depicting scenes of cherubs and children in landscapes as well as decorative floral detailing, and is surmounted with laurel leaf mounts. The casket itself is of oval architectural form, and is set on fourteen small feet. It features further porcelain plaques depicting cherubs, musical instruments and a central oval portrait of Queen Marie Antoinette within a crowned gilt cartouche. Her portrait is flanked by two cherubs and is sat within a decorative royal blue border, matching the turquoise colored borders of the other plaques. The reverse of the casket is similarly decorated and features a painted plaque of her husband King Louis XVI. The plaques are separated by mounted ormolu columns decorated with crowns and draped laurel leaves, and each column is surmounted by floral crowns. Each curved side of the casket features an ormolu mask of a female figure, and the hinged lid is surmounted by two reclining female figures wearing draped dresses and holding a central crown. The casket opens at the lid to reveal a velvet interior. There is an inscription below the portrait of Marie Antoinette which spuriously reads ‘This casket formerly property of Marie Antoinette, presented to my beloved wife as souvenir of our European tour / Sept 8th 1886 / Louis L...

A very nicely made piece of 18th century porcelain decorated with a beautiful scene. Underglaze blue and overglaze other enamels done later in Europe. British 1810-1820 Clobbered wares deserve better as they are historically very interesting. So lets call them George the IV or Regency Taste redecorated porcelain. And leave the clobbered behind us as it does no justice to what they are at all. Its not that because we live in a time were these super funky colours are out of taste that we should hate on these pieces. A short history! During the early 19th century, the Prince Regent (later King George IV) played a key role in cultivating a taste for the exotic Orient among the British elite, influencing interior design during the Regency era. His lavish projects, such as the Royal Pavilion in Brighton, epitomized this fascination. The Pavilion, with its blend of Indian, Chinese, and Gothic elements, became a symbol of the Prince’s extravagant taste. The interiors featured Chinese wallpaper, Indian textiles, and oriental furniture, reflecting the era’s growing interest in Chinoiserie and other oriental-inspired designs. This trend extended to the decorative arts, where clobbered Chinese porcelain—originally blue-and-white pieces—was reimagined with bright reds, golds, greens, and dragons to cater to the new European tastes. These colorful repainted pieces symbolized wealth, sophistication, and an affinity for the exotic, perfectly complementing the bold and opulent interiors of the time. The dragon, a powerful symbol in Chinese culture, was a recurring motif in these porcelain pieces, further aligning with the Regency’s romanticized view of the Orient. George IV’s penchant for luxury, eccentricity, and vibrant decoration influenced the wider aristocratic society, and clobbered porcelain...
