Antique burr walnut jewellery box dating to the early Victorian period, circa 1860.
The jewellery box is of rectangular form with a gently domed lid and veneered throughout in burr walnut displaying strong natural figuring across the exterior. The lid is centred by a circular brass vacant initial plaque engraved with a tulip border, repeated to the matching circular escutcheon at the front.
Opening the box reveals a fitted interior lined in dark royal blue cushioned velvet with contrasting cream ruched velvet to the lid finished with gold tooling. The inner lid releases to form a drop down compartment accessed via a small tab and latch mechanism, providing additional concealed storage.
The removable upper tray is arranged with multiple jewellery partitions together with parallel twin ring or cufflink holders. Two brass loop handles allow the tray to be lifted easily, revealing further storage space beneath suitable for larger items.
