Extremely Rare Pair of Regency Cast-Iron Sarcophagus Shaped Strong Boxes
Located in Benington, Herts
An extremely rare pair of Regency cast-iron sarcophagus shaped strong boxes. Regency, circa 1820 Painted to simulate palisander wood and with parcel-gilt, the cavetto-moulded hinged lids cast with flower sprays above foliate-cast bands over front panels relieved with river gods within canted corners cast with standing muses, the sides with lion mask and ring handles over leafy aprons on massive lion’s paw feet; the Brahmah type lock stamped “T. Davis from London” and impressed with the Royal Crown. These extraordinary pieces are modelled on Regency wine coolers. The forms are classic Greco-Roman revival with the boat-hook handles, mythic figures and the overall sarcophagus pattern. You would struggle to find one let alone a pair. Good items for any collection. Research on going into these strong boxes but we have found possible information on the lock stamped Davis….(historyoflocks ) The relationship of King George III and George Davis of Windsor, who was locksmith in ordinary to His Majesty. Davis, in 1799, invented and patented a unique style of lock, which was also beautifully engraved with a warning not to make duplicate keys. Sensitive government secrets always demanded, then as today, locks that were state of the art. Davis locks ended up on government dispatch boxes...

Weighted Wood Chess Set by John Jaques of London in Wood Box 7cm Kings, ca 1950
By Jaques of London
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a good and complete English handmade wood "weighted" chess set game of 32 pieces, in its original box with a sliding lid, made by John Jaques of London and dating to the mid 20th century period. The chess pieces are made of turned and carved varnished wood. The bases of ALL pieces are weighted with metal pieces and the bases have a green felt/paper cover. Weighted sets like this one have a much nicer "feel" when playing. The pieces in the set are in the Staunton style. Sizes: Kings: 70mm ( ~ 2.75 inches); Pawns: ~45mm (~1.7 inches) The set comes complete with its original wood storage box, having a sliding lid and complete with a paper makers sticker to the lid. Overall a good "weighted" John Jaques chess...

Antique Victorian Sterling Silver and Cranberry Glass Inkwell
By Joseph Angell II
Located in Jesmond, Newcastle Upon Tyne
An exceptional, fine and impressive, antique Victorian English sterling silver and red cranberry glass inkwell; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver inkwell has a circular shaped domed form. The body of this exceptional antique inkwell is embellished with impressive pierced and embossed scrolling leaf decoration, accented with pensile, baluster style bead motifs. The ornamentation to the body incorporates five oval cartouches; four are ornamented with an embossed male profile: two bearded males and two in a soldier's helmet. The cartouche to the anterior surface of the inkwell features the contemporary engraved crest of a stag encompassed with a garter and the motto 'God and my Honour'. The intricate sterling silver body of the inkwell incorporates five conical shaped pen receivers. The swept waisted upper portion of this antique inkwell is fitted with a hinged hallmarked cover, ornamented with engraved simplified leaf decoration. The cover is surmounted with an impressive embossed three-dimensional bust of a male figure in robes. This antique inkwell retains the original and substantial red cranberry glass ink bottle liner, with a cut glass star motif to the underside; the cranberry glass liner is highly desirable. This exceptional silver and glass inkwell is supported by five swept feet, ornamented with a continuation of scrolling leaf and circular motif decoration from the body. This exceptional example of Victorian silverware, crafted by the renowned London silversmith Joseph Angell II, is the finest example of its type Condition This antique ink bottle...

Takamaka Opal, an Aqua, Red & Orange Glass Sculpture by Sandra A. Fuchs
By Sandra A. Fuchs
Located in London, GB
'Takamaka Opal', is a unique glass sculpture by the Austrian artist Sandra A. Fuchs, created in aqua, deep red and vibrant orange glass. Fuchs creates her own multi-colored and complex glass canes, which are then cut to create small 'murrina'. These she composes to create her flat sheet 'canvas' glass artworks, which are fired again, to fuse the pieces together. The detail is breathtaking and testament to these labour intensive unique works. The dimensions above are for the glass panel and European Walnut wood base. Sandra A. Fuchs lives and works in Mautern, a small town located on the Danube within the Wachau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in Austria and in Murano, Italy. Specializing in the areas of cold working, fusing and flameworking, Fuchs has undertaken additional advanced training for glassblowing at the Technical College of Glass for Design and Craft (Kramsach, Tyrol, Austria) Abate Zanetti (Scuola del Vetro, Murano, Italy) and at Cam Ocagi (The Glass Furnace Istanbul, Turkey). Her artistic approach and style has also been developed through attending numerous master classes with artists predominantly from Italy and the USA. Since 2014 and after much time abroad, Fuchs is now focused on working exclusively as an independent glass artist in her own studio. Fuchs’ artworks share a common ‘spirit’ and ‘organic’ aesthetic. The themes which run through her pieces are inspired by the beauty and power of nature; of rising, elevating and growth, which she also interprets from a spiritual influence. She feels creativity and vision are born by traveling, connecting with people from around the world and through cultural exchange. Her signature fused panels have an inner life which is captured in dense and complex patterns which are formed from many unique pieces of ‘murrine’, which Fuchs designs and makes by herself. Traditionally ‘murrine’ all possess the same pattern, however by employing a different kiln formed technique, Fuchs makes each ‘murrina’ unique by having more control during the stretching process whilst working with her hot molten glass. With her blown art works, Fuchs combines this new special manufacturing technique of 'kiln formed murrine’ (which has only been in existence since 1992) with centuries old traditional Muranese glassblowing knowledge, resulting in pieces that are the only ones of their kind worldwide. In the artist’s own words; "Offering me every possible way to express myself, glass became my ‘partner in crime...
