Both decorative and functional in intent, the bowl exemplifies Crown Ducal’s interwar production of visually expressive tableware.
The smooth, rounded body is edged with a fine hand-painted black rim, framing a stylised illustrated scene at the centre. A swallow in flight is depicted alongside butterflies and a dragonfly, lending the composition a narrative, nature-inspired quality. The painterly motif reflects the modern decorative language developed within English Art Deco ceramics of the period, balancing clarity of form with ornamental detail.
Originally conceived as a modern fruit or serving bowl, the piece now functions equally well as a decorative centrepiece for a dining or coffee table, where its colour and illustration can be fully appreciated.
