Unusual Scottish Cut Glass and Silver Plated Lidded Serving Dish c.1920

About the Item

A really unusual lidded serving box, this design usually coming in the form of preserve jars, biscuit boxes etc.; mostly by John Grinsell or Hukin and Heath. This large example I have never seen before and with the aperture in the lid to accommodate a serving spoon, I can only guess that this was made from storing and serving something like Fruit. The multi-faceted sides is then engraved with a simple linear design and the underside with a star-cut design. This one is signed on the silver plated collar by the Scottish silversmith, goldsmith and Jewellery, "Edward, Glasgow" for Edward and Sons of 92 Buchanan Street Glasgow. Dating to c.1910 / 1920 it remains in excellent condition measuring 8 3/4" in diameter x 4 1/4" tall. Item: 41371.
