Reed and Barton Silver and Cerulean Blue Paul Revere Liberty Serving Bowl, 1945

About the Item

Silver and cerulean blue enameled Paul Revere bowl. A lovely piece with a form that is rich in history. Made in Massachusetts, the same place where the original Paul Revere serving dish was created. With a traditional silhouette and handsome silver plate with inverted blue enamel on the inside. Bowls in this shape are often referred to as “Paul Revere” or “Liberty” bowls. In 1767 the Sons of Liberty commissioned fellow member (and silversmith) Paul Revere to create a piece that honored the ninety-two members of the Massachusetts House of Representatives who refused to rescind a letter sent throughout the colonies protesting the Townshends Act. From that point onwards, bowls in this shape became referred to as a Paul Revere bowl in honor of his piece created for the Sons of Liberty. At the bottom, engraved Reed & Barton 1120 With a C encircling an A., This symbol refers to the date (1945) and the type of metal. A copper-alloy plated in silver. How we would style it: Today's tabletops are the life of the party. Gone are the days of all matching silver. Bring on the treasured pieces that speak to you. Mix this beauty in with an eclectic mix of styles and patterns and create a table that will wow your guests. Measures: Diameter 6.44" Height 3.25" Weight: 0.8 lbs

"Antique 1934 Reed & Barton number 10002-20 oval silver plate serving platter; edge engraved with the initials CMC. “The Reed & Barton story began in 1824, when Isaac Babbitt created a new metal alloy - ""Britannia metal"" - in his Taunton, Massachusetts pewter shop. Babbitt joined forces with craftsmen Henry G. Reed and Charles E. Barton to produce this innovative, higher quality pewter ware. When Babbitt encountered financial difficulties, Reed & Barton offered to take control and began manufacturing products under their own names. The fledgling company's goods reflected uncompromising standards of excellence, starting with its initial silverplate products and extending to the exquisite sterling silver creations that resulted from the silver discoveries of the late 1800s. The company has remained privately owned by the family of Henry Reed. Besides the flatware for which it is renowned, Reed & Barton operates other brands as well: Reed & Barton Handcrafted Chests, the world's largest manufacturer of handmade chests, cigar humidors, pen chests...
