Victorian Style Pair of English Toilet Flasks Crystal Ground and Sterling Silver
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Particular pair of toilet bottles in cut and ground by hand crystal; for their execution it was used crystal with a percentage of lead of 30%; the high lead content, instead of calcium present in the common glass, gives the crystal a remarkable hardness, exceptional transparency, and a high refractive index; with the techniques of cutting, grinding and polishing, scrupulously performed by hand, extraordinary light effects and reflections were created; the bottles with the ball body are surmounted by a silver neck and a hinged lid finely chiseled with Victorian motifs. They bear the Classic English silver punches from which we can tell that they were produced in the Victorian style in the city of Birmingham in 1907 (Edward VII) by the firm Phineas Harris Levi & Joseph Wolfe Salaman. The company was founded in 1870 in Birmingham on Northampton Street, in 1872 moved to larger premises on Hockley Street and in 1885 the business was finally moved to a prestigious building on Newhall Street. Levi & Salaman produced much Fine silverware...

Elkington & Co. Silver Inkwell Of Henry Morton Stanley
By Elkington & Co.
Located in New Orleans, LA
This exceptional sterling silver inkwell was presented to Henry Morton Stanley, the famed Welsh-American journalist, politician and explorer, on the occasion of his marriage to Dorothy Tennant. The inkwell was a royal gift from the Prince of Wales, the future King George V, and the Princess of Wales. The charming inkstand was designed by Walter & John Barnard for the royal silversmiths Elkington & Co., and no detail was spared in its creation. Each inkwell bears Stanley’s monogram, while the crest of the Prince and Princess adorns the delicately pierced tray. The inscription reads, “To H. M. Stanley on the occasion of his marriage / From the Prince & Princess of Wales / July 12th, 1880.” Born in Wales, Henry Morton Stanley’s lifetime of adventure began at the young age of 15 when he crossed the Atlantic aboard a merchant vessel and jumped ship in New Orleans. The young orphan was taken in by a local merchant named Henry Morton Stanley, whose name he took as his own. Stanley began a career as a journalist and was commissioned by the New York Herald to go to Central Africa in search of the famous missionary David Livingstone...

Pair Creamware Vases 18th Century English with Turquoise Trim Circa 1780
By Neale & Co.
Located in Katonah, NY
WHY WE LOVE IT: One of our absolute favorites! A pair of 18th-century creamware flower holders complete with stands and covers made in England by Neale & Co. was one of the finest 18th century English potteries. The entire composition is classically elegant. The flower holders are decorated with turquoise swags and delicately painted flowers. The tops are pierced for flower stems. The handles are made in a pair of entwined snakes painted in turquoise with bright red mouths. This flower holder could be used with the tops for individual stems or without the tops for a bouquet. All parts of the set have survived and remained together for the past 200 years. History of Creamware: Creamware is the name given to a type of earthenware pottery made from cream-colored clays from Dorset and Devonshire combined with calcined flint. Creamware was first produced in England sometime before 1740. Foremost of the pioneers of creamware in the Staffordshire Potteries was Thomas Whieldon. He produced a wide variety of creamware. The young Josiah Wedgwood was in partnership with Thomas Whieldon from 1754-1759. When Wedgwood left to set up his own business, he immediately directed his efforts to develop creamware. Many of the Staffordshire Potteries, especially Neale & Co., learned from Whieldon and Wedgwood and developed their own excellent creamware products. Dated: 1795 to 1810 Hanley Staffordshire...
