This pair of automobile bud vases are unsigned, but presumed to have been made in England in approximately 1920 in the period Art Deco style. This is a very good quality crystal cut glass cologne or perfume bottle with a sterling silver screw top lid with engine turned detail, made in London and dating to the early Art Deco period, 1919. The clear glass bottle or jar has a rectilinear shape, having an oval section, with finely hand cut vertical sides and small panels cut on the shoulder. A small Arts and Crafts silver plated jewellery box with enamel decoration displaying grapes and leaves to the lid and shaped sides.

A good antique English, Charles II (Carolean) period carved oak bible or document box, circa 1680. Such boxes were particularly popular in the 17th century, when printed bibles were very expensive and a treasured family possession. The bible was most likely the only book owned by a family and was also the means of recording births, deaths & marriages which would be written on the flyleaf or endpapers. They were also used to protect other important documents and valuables and were brought to colonial America by early settlers. This bible box dates shortly after the English Civil War & the brief time that England was a Republic (known then as the Commonwealth) under Oliver Cromwell. The box typifies those Puritan values, simple six plank construction with a hinged lid enclosing a storage area for a bible or important documents. The front of the box having a carved foliate twin lunette design with a hand cut steel lock & hasp above, the box is robust & solid & for it's 350 or so years it is in very good condition! The eight day single fusee movement with anchor escapement and a heavy lenticular bob pendulum with overslung adjustment and hold fast, is housed in a very attractive five glass case, with very thick bevelled glass panels to the sides and top. The base of the case with carved floral detail and ogee sides. John Bennett was second generation clock and watchmaker, who established a shop at 65 Cheapside, London.
