The slender figure of the young boy, seated and resting on a rock with his hanging legs crossed and joyfully eating a cluster of grapes picked from his hat that is resting on his lap. The intricate carving of his shirt, jacket, pants, hat and boots with fine attention details such at the stitching, buttons, the hem on his pants, the wear on the soles of his boots and the features on his face makes this one of Belliazzi's finest known works. In China, the term qingci "青瓷" (literally meaning blue-green porcelain) is used to designate ceramic objects of gray-green color, with the first character representing blue or blue-green color "青". Various epithets were used to describe this color: "heavenly azure" "天青" (tian qing), "dusty blue" "粉青" (fen qing), or "after the rain passes, the sky becomes blue" - yu guo tian qing "雨過天青", which idiomatically means the arrival of good times after troubles. The characteristic gray-green color is obtained by adding iron oxide to the glaze. The jewellery box is of rectangular form with a gently domed lid and veneered throughout in burr walnut displaying strong natural figuring across the exterior. The lid is centred by a circular brass vacant initial plaque engraved with a tulip border, repeated to the matching circular escutcheon at the front. Opening the box reveals a fitted interior lined in dark royal blue cushioned velvet with contrasting cream ruched velvet to the lid finished with gold tooling.
