Vintage Porcelain Large Underglaze Blue Tulipiere Vases, Chinese
Located in Downingtown, PA
Vintage Porcelain Large Tulip Vase Pyramids,
Chinese,
Circa 2000
A pair of Tulipiere vases with each tulipiere made in four interconnecting pieces and painted in underglaze blue and white. The pattern is known as the Blue Onion Pattern. Each vase has twenty four openings for tulips or flowers opening to a hollow cavity for water.
Dimensions: 31 1/4 inches tall x 8 3/4 inches square base.
A "tulipiere" is a type of ornate vase, also known as a tulip vase or pyramid vase, designed to hold multiple stems of flowers, particularly tulips, in individual spouts. They are often made of Delftware and feature a shared water reservoir at the base. They are traditionally used for displaying cut flowers.
On April 15, 2025, The Financial Times had an article titled, "Tulipieres for spring: still groundbreaking".
There is a current exhibition at Chatsworth, The Gorgeous Nothings: Flowers at Chatsworth (until 5 October), which features 12 Delft tulipieres...

Huge Antique Hand Blown & Formed Thick Deep Green Wine or Spirits Bottle

This very large and substantial antique wine bottle's exact origins are unknown, but it is presumed to be English or possibly Dutch and dating from the early 1700's. The bottle was hand blown and formed and uses a very thick deep olive green glass. The slightly bent neck has a very thick stem and top which leads to a large bulbous or flask shaped base. The front and back sides have been slightly flattened which was likely done for packing and stability during shipping. Blue John Closed Urn
Located in New Orleans, LA
This beautiful ornamental urn is carved of rare Blue John Derbyshire spar, taken from the now-extinct Blue John Cavern in Derbyshire, England. Crafted in a classically-inspired shape, this closed urn evokes the elegance of the Georgian period. Since the Roman era, Blue John was used to create fine decorative wares. This intriguing stone demands a great deal of skill in its handling and was the material most favored by silversmith Matthew Boulton, especially for the creation of his stoneware vases. A soft and brittle stone, it responds very quickly to heat, and must be carefully dried in order to retain its original color. This urn is wonderful example of Blue John artistry,

Mason's Ironstone Bottle Vase in Chinese Dragon Pattern very rare, circa 1820
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a very rare ironstone vase, in the Chinese style, all hand painted in the coloured dragon pattern, made by the Mason's factory in the early 19th century.
Both the vase shape and the pattern are very rare.
The vase has a bottle shape with a fairly tall neck, having two dolphin head handles, with attached loops.
(NOTES ON SHAPE
This vase style is a copy of a much earlier Chinese bronze vase shape produced in the Ming, Hongwu period of 1368 - 1398, which had similar decorative animal head side handles with loops. ( See the book Chinese Ceramics by He Li, page 216, published by Thames & Hudson. ).
Also On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 204;
The square handles and rings illustrate the metal origins of the shape of the vase. Similar examples have been excavated in Chinese tombs dating to the fifteenth and sixteenth century, suggesting that the shape was particularly popular at that time.)
This vase is beautifully hand decorated in a more complex variant of the Coloured Chinese Dragon pattern, with strong coloured enamels depicting a green dragon on one side and a pink dragon...
