This bronze dish was made by multitalented artist and sculptor Edward Timothy Hurley (1869-1950). E.T. Hurley studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati where he excelled in drypoint etching under the tutelage of noted painter Frank Duveneck. Hurley was also an accomplished painter and went on to work as a decorator for the renowned Cincinnati based Rookwood Pottery company. In addition, the artist produced a variety of work on his own including sketches and works executed in watercolor, pastel and oil. Hurley also worked with metal and sculpted a variety of pieces in bronze. This bronze dish has a patinated finish designed to resemble that found on ancient bronze works and has a heavily verdigrised appearance. Après des études d'ingénieur (1944-1950), il est employé par Caterpillar-France et Du Pont de Nemours. En 1953, il intègre Technès, le bureau d’études techniques et d’esthétique fondé en 1949 par Jacques Viénot, le père de l’esthétique industrielle, et Jean Parthenay. Rapidement promu au poste de directeur technique et artistique de l’agence, il en devient directeur à la mort de Jacques Viénot en 19593. Enseignant dès 1957 à l’École des arts appliqués de Paris, il met en place le premier cours de design en France. En 1963, il crée le département design de l'École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs à Paris. Roger Tallon meurt à Paris le 20 octobre 2011.
