Original zoomorphic pitcher ewer in the shape of a partridge. Beautiful item made of silver plate for the head of the partridge nicely chiseled showing the lovely texture of feathers and blown blue glass for the body part, with a handle on the back. Yellow-colored glass eyes. The Head of the partridge is mounted on a hinge forming a movable lid for the pitcher-ewer. This kind of pitcher ewer was mainly used to serve delicious alcohol or liquor with flavor and aroma, such as pear, and mirabelle plum, as it was during the "Belle Epoque" a very fashionable and refined custom. This colored blown glass was produced by the Portieux Crystal factory created in 1705, it has a written mark "Deposé" beneath the body of the ewer, french work from the late 19th century, probably from Napoleon III period. The history of this factory known as the "Portieux crystal factory" actually begins in Tonnoy in 1690. In 1698, Duke Leopold I of Lorraine granted letters patent to Sieur de la Pommeraye, owner of the premises, associated with François Magnien, holder of the know-how, the exclusivity of glass manufacturing and trade in his duchy. In 1898, the Grand Duchess of Vladimir, wife of the brother of Tsar Nicolas II, discovered the factory while on a cure in Contrexéville. Pair of pitcher jugs. Silver. BENITO GOMEZ, Antonio (1775-1835). Segovia, Spain, 1801-1835. With contrast markings. Pair of spouted jugs with a circular base with moldings, a low conical foot and a tubular body finished in a hemisphere at the bottom and with a flat molding at the top; the handle, in double ce, presents a simple scroll or branch that rests towards the mouth of the piece; the beak shows a simple decoration. Typologically, this pair is linked to a type of spouted jug that, with variations, is common in Hispanic domestic silverware from the first half of the 17th century to the beginning of the 18th century, also found after this date. As usual, the civil model was quickly assimilated by religious silverware, especially for its use in liturgical cruets. Antonio Benito Gómez (1775-1835) was a silversmith who worked in Segovia from at least 1801 until he died, and was also a silver marker carved between 1824 and 1828, and between 1831 and 1835. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Italian silver sterling jug. This exceptional antique Italian sterling silver jug has an oval paneled, flared form onto a circular domed foot. The surface of this antique jug is plain and unembellished, with a matte, subtly planished finish in keeping with the patination of a piece from this period. This impressive piece is fitted with an exceptional cast sterling silver scrolling handle, accented with a leaf design emanating from the thumbpiece, this leaf ornamentation comprises the upper terminal. The circular foot is encircled with a band of embossed bead decoration. This impressive antique silver jug has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as sterling standard silver (925/1000). Patination or Patina is a subtle coloration or tarnish which forms on the surface of some metals, produced by oxidation or other chemical processes.
