An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Georgian English sterling silver locking tea caddy; an addition to our silver teaware collection
This exceptional antique Georgian sterling silver tea caddy has a cylindrical form.
The upper and lower portions of this Aesthetic style silver tea caddy is embellished with bands of bright cut engraved floral bud designs; further vertical bands segment the body into five equal portions, each encompassed with undulating wrigglework borders.
The anterior portion of the body is ornamented with a bright cut engraved rectangular cut cornered cartouche encompassed with a radiating simplified floral and scrolling foliate decoration and featuring the contemporary engraved crest of a lion's head collared and erased.
The further four segments bear Chinoiserie bright cut engraved Chinese symbols representing the four seasons: spring (? / chun), summer (? / xia), autumn (? / qiu) and winter (? / dong).
This antique silver tea caddy retains the original hallmarked flush hinged cover; the flush hinge indicates the fine quality of this piece.
The cover is encompassed with further bands of bright cut engraved decoration, reflecting the designs to the body.

This magnificent set of 12 antique George III sterling silver plates has a plain circular form.
The raised border is embellished with an impressive bright cut engraved crest of an arm in armour embowed, holding in the hand a scythe in bend Dexter.
Each antique plate is ornamented with a fine and impressive gadroon decorated border to the rim.
The circular well of each plate is plain and unembellished.
The underside of each plate retains the silversmith’s centre punch mark.
These exceptional Georgian plates were crafted by one of the most famous and revered London silversmiths Paul Storr.
The surface of each plate has a fine color and patination.
Patination or patina is a subtle coloration or tarnish which forms on the surface of some metals, produced by oxidation or other chemical processes. A good patina proffers an aesthetically pleasing look.

This exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver teapot has an inverted pear shaped form onto a circular spreading foot.
The surface of the bachelor teapot is plain and unembellished.
The upper rim of the body is ornamented with a band of cast and applied gadroon decoration all in a swirl design.
This antique silver teapot is fitted with a hallmarked, domed flush hinged cover surmounted with an impressive and original, cast sterling silver flame style finial; the flush hinge indicates the high quality of the piece.
This exceptional example of antique teaware retains the original C scroll carved painted wood handle featuring a plain scrolling thumbpiece and a cast silver leaf decorated design to the upper socket,
This impressive example of antique silverware has a cast silver swan necked spout embellished with fluted decoration and applied leaf motif to the lip.
The ornamentation to the underside of the spout incorporates a vacant oval cartouche below a shell motif.
The cast circular spreading foot is encircled with further gadroon decoration to the rim.

It measures 2.24 in (5.7 cm) in height, 6.10 in (15.5 cm) in diameter.

State of conservation: mimetic restoration.
The small cup has a raised central “umbone”, a perforated brim and a shaped rim. It rests on a high jutting foot. The "crespina" shape, in some inventories is cited as "tacce de frute" (fruit cups). It was particularly appreciated in the Renaissance and has variants based on the formal types and the different sizes. The decoration, made according to the dictates of the “compendiario” style, used few standardized colors: blue and yellow on a thick white and shiny enamel, deliberately chosen as the colour which was most reminiscent of silver. This choice derived from a trend in creative design of the era: the shapes used in the molds were often taken from metal objects. An idea which would last throughout the Renaissance.
The work shows, in the middle of the “umbone”, a winged putto stepping forward while playing a long thin trumpet.
The depiction of the putto is fully representative of the repertoire of the Faenza workshops of the sixteenth century.
Some specimens with this type of decoration have been published in a volume by Carmen Ravanelli Guidotti: there appears the whole productive repertoire of this fundamental moment of transition between the taste for the “istoriato” style and the great simplification of decoration in the “compendiario” period. This style, in its simplicity, however, saw its expression in a rather varied collection of decorative subjects, including old-fashioned busts...
