Japanese antique tray made of bamboo/Late Meiji to early Showa period/Wabi-sabi
Located in Sammu-shi, Chiba
This is an elegant tray made from thin Japanese bamboo. I think this item was made around the end of the Meiji era to the beginning of the Showa era (1900-1940). Japan and China have had a tea culture since ancient times, and in that culture the Obon festival has a long history, and various kinds of Obon have been made. And various materials are used. For example, metal, wood, paper, or bamboo. And this one is made of bamboo. It is made by heating bamboo, bending it, and splitting it into small pieces. The back side of the tray is covered with hemp cloth and lacquer. This is probably done by sticking a thin wooden board on the back side of the bamboo, and then putting a linen cloth on it. Zhang, I think it was finished with lacquer. As for the parts circled in red, some of the bamboo has thin cracks due to being used for many years, and the small pillars...
