This is a hand blown, glass, cup and saucer made from an amethyst colored glass and dating to the English Georgian period, circa 1800. Georgian glass cups and saucers are unusual and hard to find. This one is particularly attractive being made of amethyst glass. The cup is free blown in the shape of a coffee can with a handmade loop handle. The surface of the tea caddy is encompassed with bright cut engraved fabric swag designs and floral festoons, suspended from impressive spiralling foliate anchor-points accented with pensile bud designs. Each spiralling motif flanks a shield shaped cartouche displaying the contemporary engraved initials 'WM' and surmounted with a ribbon style bow.
