Wonderful mid twentieth century table lamp with a carved tropical island scene. Over the decades we have sold a number of rare, great looking and meaningful tropical and exotic inspired light fixtures, but this sculptural table lamp is certainly one of the more unusual ones. The circular wooden body, the warm grain of the wood and the beautifully carved translucent decorative panel together create a striking and highly decorative midcentury design. The front panel shows a romantic tropical island scene with palm trees, a small boat and a sunset-like landscape. Even with the light switched off, the carved scene has a wonderful natural depth and character. However, when the lamp is switched on, the entire scene comes to life and the warm light shining through the translucent panel creates a beautiful and atmospheric effect. It makes this lamp both a practical light source and a decorative object with real presence. The combination of the rounded wooden frame, the stepped base and the illuminated tropical view gives this piece a charming midcentury holiday feel. It would look wonderful on a side table, console, desk, bedside table or in a relaxed interior where one unique and warm accent piece can make all the difference. This lamp is in very good condition with only minor wear consistent with age and use. The socket and wiring can of course be checked and professionally prepared for safe usage before shipping.
