Melted metal looks as hot as a molten star! Rays shoot out in all directions and have multiple layers and lengths! This work is in very fine vintage condition. The steel has been gilt enameled in a splatter pattern to catch the light when the sun hits it, creating a very scintillating visual effect. Incredible labor went into this piece and it displays beautifully. It's really hard to find these iconic mid century metal sculptures...

The baluster form vase is enameled with polychrome images of butterflies made in the Cloisonne technique on a black ground. The base and the neck of the ware are adorned with a geometrical motif on a green ground made in the same technique. Unmarked. Hayashi Kodenji was a pivotal figure in the history of Cloisonne enamel manufacturer. He was instrumental in the formation and leadership of the Shippo cho enamellers guild, and it is probable that he worked for the Nagoya-based Shippo Kaisha.
