This is a very rare, ironstone Two Handled, Ice Pail or Wine Cooler Pot, made by Mason's Patent Ironstone China Company, of Lane Delph, Staffordshire, England, circa 1818. This piece is substantial and heavily potted, weighing about 2.2 Kg un-packed. The pot is circular with 12 vertical sections, sitting on a low foot with an everted rim. The two side handles are strongly potted and this piece is quite suitable for use or display, as an ice bucket, wine bottle cooler or perhaps as a vase or centre piece. The piece is decorated in the Mason's recorded pattern called "Basket of Flowers" which is a vibrant floral pattern, hand polychrome enamelled over a sepia print on a white glaze. This is a finely hand painted large and rare early Stone China (Ironstone) plate / stand or platter which dates to the George 111 period, circa 1815. Made by the DAVENPORT factory of Longport, Staffordshire Potteries, England. The plate is very well potted with a slightly raised central circular section. This plate is beautifully hand painted in a pattern called "Stork", which is pattern number 24 and one of Davenport's very few Chinoiserie patterns. This bold pattern features polychrome enamels with a stork, chrysanthemum and peony in an oriental garden. There are under-glaze blue transfers in under-glaze cobalt blue, with orange, pink, and brown over-glaze enamels. The pattern is embellished with excellent hand gilding. This pattern is a match to the Ralph & James Clews pattern called " Crane in Chinese Garden". A photo of the Clews plate in this pattern is on page 142 of Griselda Lewis' "A Collector's History of English Pottery".
