About the Item

This is a beautiful bowl or soup plate produced by the Spode factory and made of ironstone pottery, which they call Stone China, in the early 19th Century, Circa 1820 The chinoiserie influenced pattern is called "Japan Floral" pattern number 2054, the floral blue decoration being transfer printed under-glaze then carefully hand painted in bold coloured enamels of blue, red & green, with a brown outer rim to simulate Chinese porcelain plates of that period and earlier in the 18th Century. A dish in this pattern is shown on page 57 of Steven Smith's book called Spode and Copeland, published by Schiffer.
