This is a good Mason’s ironstone large dinner plate produced at the time when Mason's was owned and controlled by George L Ashworth and Brothers after the bankruptcy of C J Mason in 1848. This large plate is decorated in a the striking chinoiserie pattern called "Flying Bird" pattern, as illustrated on Page 121 of "A Guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns" published by The Mason's Collectors' Club. The pattern would have been transfer printed then boldly hand enameled with good detail. The plate also has a mid-brown / ochre hand painted outer rim simulating the Chinese plates of the time and earlier periods. The base carries a blue transfer printed mark Ashworth Brothers...

This is a very good sauce tureen made of ironstone (Spode's Stone China) in the Ship Pattern, No 3067, produced by the English, Spode factory early in the 19th century, George 111rd Period. The piece is well potted with two side handles. The pattern is called the Ship pattern number 3067, the chinoiserie decoration being transfer printed under-glaze, then very carefully hand-painted in bold colored enamels with additional gold gilding over-glaze. As is usual with Spode ware the standard of hand painted detail is very high. A plate in this pattern is shown on page 54 of Steven Smith's book; "Spode and Copeland" published by Schiffer. The pattern is in the Chinese taste as produced by many of the English potteries of the time, to compete directly with the large import of Canton or Chinese Export porcelain from China. The piece has a mid brown edge similar to that often seen on Chinese plates. The piece is fully marked to the base, with the earlier Spode black printed Stone-China mark...

This is a very good, late Georgian Ironstone Dinner Plate decorated in a rare pattern No.58, manufactured by the English Davenport factory, which was situated in Longport, Staffordshire, England and dating to Circa 1815. This is a large dinner plate and is well potted with a slightly wavy rim. It is finely hand decorated in rare pattern No. 58, with brick red, green and blue enamels, showing a chinoiserie floral arrangement having a distinctive three part border, with additional hand gilded detail. The quality of the hand enamelling is very good. Davenport were one of the earliest producers of Ironstone along with Mason's, Spode and others and called their ironstone pottery wears "Stone China". This is a good early pair of dinner plates, hand painted ironstone (stone china ) made by William Davenport and Co., longport, staffordshire potteries, England, George 111rd period, circa 1815. The pattern is number "659", which is one of Davenport's very few chinoiserie patterns. The bold decoration features striking polychrome enamels of rocks and different flowers all in the Chinoiserie style, hand painted over-glaze in different colours over an under-glaze blue printed outline. The pattern is embellished with good hand gilding and a five section border pattern to the outer rim, similar to the central pattern with sprigs of hand painted flowers. This is a very decorative side plate by Spode, made of Stone China (Ironstone) decorated in the Oriental Pheasant pattern, dating to the Georgian period of circa 1820. The plate is circular in shape with a notched rim and is decorated in one of Spode's most vividly coloured and sought after chinoiserie patterns, the "Oriental Pheasant" pattern 2977, a very similar pattern being made by Mason's Ironstone The pattern would have been transfer printed in underglaze blue, then finely hand-painted in bold enamels, with a particularly colourful and distinctive border design. Georgian Spode Large Bowl Ironstone Chinoiserie Ptn No.3875, Circa 1820
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a very decorative large bowl, produced by the Spode factory, circa 1820. The bowl is circular with an everted rim and on a raised pedastal foot. This is pattern number 3875, the chinoiserie decoration being transfer printed in cobalt blue under-glaze, then carefully and beautifully hand-painted in bold colored enamels with additional gilding over-glaze. The pattern shows a large Jardiniere beside a vase, both holding colourful flowers beside a tree, all in a garden setting with a distinctive floral border. The pattern is on the inside and outside of the bowl with hand gilded gold highlights. The pattern is in the Chinese taste as produced by many of the English potteries of the time, to compete directly with the large import of Canton or Chinese export porcelain from China.
