Located in Incline Village, NV

Outstanding and rare early 19th century Mason's Ironstone (6) piece set consisting of toilet necessities as follows: Large oversized highly decorated pitcher and bowl for storing water and wash basin Pair of chamber pots for evening needs Similarly decorated toothbrush holder, large enough for multiple users Soap dish with removable strainer dish The fact that this rare ensemble has survived intact with no damage for nearly two hundred years is remarkable. It would have been an item owned and cherished by the aristocracy. and enjoyed as an art form because of it's high quality manufacture, in addition to the elaborate and detailed decoration. Also of note is the 8 sided octagonal form of each of the six items (see images). Please observe the elaborate serpent or snake formed handles to the large pitcher and both of the chamber pots (see images). Also worth mentioning is the attention the interior of the bowl receives, with as much decoration applied as the exterior (see image). The interior upper perimeters of all of the items receive the same amount of attention. The pitcher and bowl combination is larger than most that were manufactured during that period, (16" diameter) made possible by the strength of the ironstone. The Mason's mark underneath the items indicates a 1830s manufacture, with the "Mason's Patent Ironstone China" above and beneath the crown in blue. The ironstone process was patented by Charles Mason...

By Davenport Porcelain

Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire

This is a good, late Georgian, ironstone Soup Bowl or Plate, in pattern no. 15, manufactured by the English Davenport factory, which was situated in Longport, Staffordshire, England between 1794 and 1887. This oriental garden pattern is transfer printed in cobalt blue of different shades, with hand gilded detail around the inner and outer rims. The pattern is called "Bamboo and Peony" which is Davenport's pattern number 15, a very early pattern and probably copied from a Chinese original. This exact pattern is illustrated on a plate in Godden's Guide to Ironstone, by Geoffrey A Godden, page 230, plate 176. Davenport were one of the earliest producers of Ironstone along with Mason's, Spode and others and called their ironstone pottery wears "Stone China". On the back the plate carries the blue printed Davenport Stone...

Georgian Spode Stone China Sauce Tureen in Ship Pattern 3067, circa 1810

By Spode

Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire

This is a very good sauce tureen made of ironstone (Spode's Stone China) in the Ship Pattern, No 3067, produced by the English, Spode factory early in the 19th century, George 111rd Period. The piece is well potted with two side handles. The pattern is called the Ship pattern number 3067, the chinoiserie decoration being transfer printed under-glaze, then very carefully hand-painted in bold colored enamels with additional gold gilding over-glaze. As is usual with Spode ware the standard of hand painted detail is very high. A plate in this pattern is shown on page 54 of Steven Smith's book; "Spode and Copeland" published by Schiffer. The pattern is in the Chinese taste as produced by many of the English potteries of the time, to compete directly with the large import of Canton or Chinese Export porcelain from China. The piece has a mid brown edge similar to that often seen on Chinese plates. The piece is fully marked to the base, with the earlier Spode black printed Stone-China mark...

The pattern is "JERSEY" manufactured by Keeling & Co. noted as "LATE MAYER". While marked with "1790", this often refers to a historical pattern date rather than the actual manufacturing date, which is mid-to-late 19th century. It showcases traditional ironstone or semi-porcelain construction with a vibrant, intricate floral design commonly seen in English pottery of the period. Antique Spode Shell Shaped Dishes Orange & Blue Imari Pattern England Circa 1820

By Spode

Located in Katonah, NY

This pair of Spode shell-shaped dishes was made in England around 1820 and printed in the classic orange and blue palette associated with Imari decoration. The lively color combination immediately gives the pair decorative authority, while the sculptural shell form adds movement and visual interest. The printed design shows a stylized garden scene with blue rockwork, flowering peonies and chrysanthemums in orange, and bamboo rising behind the flowers. The limited palette of orange and blue keeps the composition clear and balanced, with the strong blue elements anchoring the design and the warm orange flowers providing contrast. Spode was one of the most important English pottery manufacturers of the early nineteenth century and played a central role in adapting Asian decorative traditions for the English market. The orange and blue color scheme reflects the long influence of Japanese Imari porcelains that began arriving in Europe during the seventeenth century. The molded shell form enhances the design by creating gentle curves that catch the light across the surface, adding dimension to the printed decoration. Dishes of this shape were often used for serving desserts or sweetmeats and were also valued for display. Dimensions: 10 inches long x 8.5 inches wide x 2 inches deep Condition: Excellent Price: $380 for the pair Decoration: Orange and blue Imari...
