IPN Table by Dirk Meylaerts
Located in Geneve, CH
IPN Table by Dirk Meylaerts Dimensions: W 90 x D 300 x H 74 cm Materials: Steel, Pearwood. Generally, a tabletop can be constructed with boards used length or width-wise. When one uses the boards lengthwise, the tabletop cannot be longer than the size of the tree. A tabletop assembled in width, on the other hand, has the advantage of not being limited in length size: in theory, you can multiply the boards endlessly and create a very long table. I use two metal beams (available in any length) to support this very long tabletop. This system allows the boards their necessary leeway. The tabletop can be fixed to the metal beams by two bolts. Two trestles constitute the feet of the table. They can be put at the end of the table, or more towards the center, as one wishes. Biography: After a short career as an actor and dancer in Jan Fabre’s theatre piece The Power of Theatrical Madness, he decided to pursue a career in furniture making. He studied cabinetmaking at Les Arts et Metiers in Brussels and trained under master cabinet maker Ralf Hillenbrand, who taught him all the technical aspects of the craft. After three years, he began working as an independent cabinet maker and designer, a career that spanned 25 years. In 2003, he organized several auction sales of prototypes by fellow designers, in collaboration with the auction house Pierre Bergé in Brussels. In 2006, he founded D&A Lab, a company that produced limited series of functional design objects, conceived by contemporary artists such as Jonathan Monk, Pierre Bismuth, Ann Veronica Janssens...

Table for Artists by Dirk Meylaerts
Located in Geneve, CH
Table for Artists by Dirk Meylaerts Dimensions: W 80 x D 192 x H 74 cm Materials: Pearwood. "I wanted to create a light table that can be used as a polyvalent desk. An elegant solution for this multifunctionality is to make tabletop and feet independent. Moreover, this allows me to give the trestles a sculptural quality. The tabletop is made of pearwood boards glued together, supported by two beams that are fixed permanently with long dovetails. The beams allow the tabletop to breathe freely." Biography: After a short career as an actor and dancer in Jan Fabre’s theatre piece The Power of Theatrical Madness, he decided to pursue a career in furniture making. He studied cabinetmaking at Les Arts et Metiers in Brussels and trained under master cabinet maker Ralf Hillenbrand, who taught him all the technical aspects of the craft. Leon Jallot Tiered Table in Pearwood and Camphor Burl
Located in Philadelphia, PA
Early French Art Deco (transitional) tiered table by Leon Jallot in pearwood and camphor wood burl, circa 1910-12. 28” diameter x 29” high. Leon Jallot (1874-1967) Born in Nantes, July 24, 1874, Leon Jallot studied in Paris but did not go to any school of art. Without any formal training, other than a general refined sense of culture, he opened his own workshop at age 16 and began wood sculpting and making his own furniture.Strictly self-disciplined, he began as a wood carver. By 1899, at the age of just 24, he had worked his way to become Director of the Art Nouveau workshop of the collector, Siegfried Bing, for his shop called l’Art Nouveau in Paris. He remained there until 1901, overseeing production for the shop as well as Bing’s installation at the 1900 Paris Universal Exposition. Jallot therefore participated in the creation of some of the Art Nouveau movement’s most prized works – those designed by the firm’s renowned threesome: Georges de Feure, Eduoard Colonna, and Eugene Gaillard. In 1901 Jallot became one of the founding members of the first Salon of Societe des Artistes Decorateurs – an organization which produced highly anticipated annual exhibitions through the first half of the 20th Century. In 1903 he established his own decorating workshop where he designed and fabricated furniture, fabrics, carpets, tapestries, glassware, lacqueer and screens. Jallot was the first of the Art Nouveau designers to turn away from floral ornamentation and to pursue linearism – as early as 1904 his decoration was limited to the natural grain of the wood – and he was an advocate of rich materials rather than over-wrought forms to suggest luxury. Jallot’s work was shown at the Salons of Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts from 1908, Salon d’Automne from 1919, and at the SAD throughout. A review of his exhibit at the 1921 Salon des Artistes Decorateurs, in Art et Decoration, said: “His furniture has the easy elegance of ideas created in a flash and then mulled over – ingenuity, savoir-faire, and patience are all combined in his work.” He created furniture for the Grand Salon of Une Ambassade Francaise and Hotel du Collectionneur at the 1925 Paris Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes (which would, years later, launch the term “Art Deco”). From 1921, Leon Jallot partnered with his son, Maurice (see Maurice Jallot’s biography elsewhere on the Calderwood Gallery...

Exceptional Gaston Poisson & Robert Pansart Cabinet Lacquered Mahogany, Art Deco
Located in Paris, France
This splendid and rare large furniture piece includes three doors with engraved signed keys from the artist Gaston Poisson, “GP”. This circa 1937 cabinet is made of green lacquered* mahogany and contains 12 interior shelves (three doors each with 4 shelves), each shelf featuring beautiful marquetry detail. The centerpiece of this beautiful cabinet is the large exterior mirror by Robert Pansart. This is made of "églomisé" glass with a polychrome geometric ribbon-like decor. Églomisé glass is a technique used often for mirrors that creates intricate decoration using golden leaves and silver. *THE LACQUER IS NOT ORIGINAL, THE CABINET HAS BEEN REFINISHED LATE 20 CENTURY Gaston Poisson, a cabinetmaker from Lille, France, is a renowned Renaissance designer best known for his modernist work. He has a unique taste for pure clean lines, mostly from the 1950s-1960s, which is exemplified in this particular piece. The square and diagonal motifs visible on the facade of the cabinet as well as the ornate marquetry on the interior shelves show that this piece was highly specialized, a well thought out piece made with incredible care. Robert Pansart is a French glassmaker and decorator who specialized in his unique technique of etching and oxidizing with “églomisé” glass. One of the most highly regarded glassmakers of his time, he mainly worked from post war years to the 1960s, and his work is reminiscent of a world based on fairy tales – evocative of the 1940s-1950s taste. His mirrors tend to appear in the antique art market and are valued as highly collectible pieces. Pansart mirrors were auctioned at very high prices at auctions at Artcurial and other major auction houses (see the last picture) Different works of the artist: Berliz Cinema in Paris Municipal Theater of Poitiers (see last picture) Theater of the Paquebot France
