Set of 2 Chairs Louis XV style in White Bronze Clad, Club Chair by P. Mathieu

By Stephanie Odegard Collection

Located in New York, NY

Louis XV Set of 2 Chairs is designed by the renowned designer Paul Mathieu. He chose the name “Louise” when he created his more feminine version of Louis XV furniture and this Elegant Club Chair. The characteristic cabriole leg, curving outward at the knee and inward towards the foot in an "S" shape was born during Louis XV period. It is during the same era that English furniture makers produced the Queen Anne and Chippendale styles. The style of 18th-century French furniture was guided by the court. When Louis XV, who reigned from 1715–74, focused royal life on the smaller salons of Versailles rather than its grand chambers, it transformed the aesthetics away from the imposing and angular furniture that characterized the style of Louis XIV. A broader focus on comfort and more delicate forms define antique Louis XV furniture, with nature-inspired carvings, wood inlays, curved cabriole legs, asymmetrical shapes and rounded oval seat backs. The furnishings changed throughout the king’s life, as he ascended to the throne as a child and then grew to establish his own tastes. Pieces like the bergère, an upholstered armchair with a wide cushion that fit the flowing dresses in fashion at the time, reflected this more informal court. Introduced at the start of Louis XV’s reign, bergère chairs in this style were deeper and broader than other chairs of the period. Louis XV tapestries and carpets tended to be floral and colourful, and design elements were borrowed from Asia. Dutch-born cabinetmaker Bernard van Risenburgh brought lacquer techniques influenced by Japan and China into his luxuriously made furniture. Along with its fine details, the furniture of the era also featured new innovations including mechanical devices. Jean François Oeben, a royal cabinetmaker, created such intricate pieces as a mechanical table for Madame de Pompadour, Louis XV’s mistress. It involved a sliding top and a writing surface that extended from its marquetry panels. During the later years of Louis XV’s reign, there was a shift from the ostentatious rocaille style, part of the exuberantly decorative Rococo movement in Europe for which designers such as Nicolas Pineau and Juste-Aurèle Meissonier are known. The style under Louis XVI would return to boxier forms, but with a neoclassical touch inspired by the ancient world. The curved legs and side arms of this exceptionally elegant chair are hand carved from solid pieces of teak. Pattern makers trace and cut complex forms that will cover the chair in a skin of copper or purest silver (assayed at 96% purity, beyond sterling at 92.5%). The metal finishes will tarnish over time. Regular non-abrasive household metal polishes can be used to restore the original lustre. Set of 2 Chairs Louis XV style in White Bronze Clad, Club Chair by Paul Mathieu...

Large Antique English Silver-Plated Coffee Pot Hinged Lid, Ornate Hot Water Pot
Large Antique English Silver-Plated Coffee Pot Hinged Lid, Ornate Hot Water Pot

Large Antique English Silver-Plated Coffee Pot Hinged Lid, Ornate Hot Water Pot

Located in Wembley, GB

Antique English Silver-Plated Coffee Pot, Victorian Era, Late 19th Century Tall Cylindrical Form with Hinged Lid and Classical Proportions This exceptional Antique English silver-plated coffee pot, dating to the late 19th century, is a distinguished example of Victorian-era table silver, combining refined craftsmanship with timeless functional elegance. Executed in a tall cylindrical form, the pot features a gracefully articulated pouring spout, a substantial curved handle, and a hinged domed lid fitted with a decorative thumb lift—designed for ease of use while maintaining heat during service. The body is subtly banded and rests on a stepped circular base, lending architectural balance and visual authority. Its clean vertical profile reflects the restrained sophistication of late Victorian design, making it equally suitable as a functional serving vessel or a decorative silver object within curated interiors. Origin & Period Produced in England during the late Victorian period, this coffee pot reflects the high standards of traditional English silversmithing, when silver-plated wares were crafted to serve both domestic households and formal hospitality settings. Such vessels were integral to coffee, tea, and hot water service during formal dining and afternoon tea rituals. The presence of maker’s marks stamped on the upper body confirms its period authenticity and adherence to established English production standards of the era. Design & Decorative Appeal The pot’s design balances practicality and elegance, with a well-proportioned spout for controlled pouring and a hinged lid that opens smoothly while remaining securely attached. The interior of the lid shows concentric turning marks, a characteristic feature of hand-finished silverware from the 19th century. This versatile piece integrates beautifully into: Traditional and period interiors Classic English dining rooms Layered tabletop and sideboard displays Luxury bar or coffee service settings Curated collections of antique silver Its understated form allows it to complement both ornate Victorian silver collections and more minimalist, heritage-inspired interiors. Craftsmanship & Materials Material: Silver-plated metal Technique: Hand-finished Victorian silverwork Construction: Hinged lid, applied handle, stepped base The silver-plated surface displays a soft, even patina, consistent with age and careful use, enhancing the pot’s authenticity and visual depth without diminishing its refined presence. This is not a decorative reproduction, but a genuine antique English silver vessel crafted for long-term use and lasting beauty. Condition Excellent antique condition, with light age-related wear and patina appropriate to its period. The structure remains sound, the hinge operates correctly, and the overall form retains strong definition and balance. Interior Styling & Use This antique coffee pot works beautifully as: A functional coffee or hot water pot A decorative silver accent for dining rooms or bars A statement object in traditional or eclectic interiors A collectible piece within a curated silverware display It pairs effortlessly with linen table settings, crystal glassware, porcelain services, dark wood furniture, and marble or stone surfaces, adding heritage and elegance to any environment. Why This Piece Is Special This Victorian English silver-plated coffee pot represents a timeless fusion of utility, craftsmanship, and understated luxury. Its classic proportions, authentic patina, and refined detailing make it highly appealing to collectors of antique silver, interior designers, and lovers of traditional English decorative arts. More than a serving vessel, it is a decorative object with historical presence, equally suited to daily appreciation or formal display. Antique English silver coffee pot • Victorian silver-plated coffee pot • 19th-century English silverware • Antique lidded coffee pot • Victorian tableware • Collectible antique silver • English...
