This hand-carved oak cartouche mirror from France, circa 1720-1740, is an exceptional example of French Régence and early Baroque craftsmanship. As a completely unique historical survivor, this one-of-a-kind mirror features a frame masterfully carved from solid oak, crowned by a monumental heraldic coronet and flanked by two expressive angels (cherubims). The bottom section centers around a characterful angel's face surrounded by deep rocailles and leaf decorations. The oak surface is in a beautiful, dry state with authentic remnants of historical white gesso in the deeper carving lines, showcasing its rich, untouched history.
The back features an atmospheric, handwritten antique document placed onto the authentic oak backboard. Due to its compact, intimate size and absolute singularity, this unicum serves as a highly sophisticated, jewel-like focal point in high-end international interiors. The mirror works beautifully on a smaller wall in a luxury powder room, acts as a stunning historic contrast piece inside an intimate dressing room surrounded by rich textiles, or serves as a refined tactile detail placed above a narrow marble console in a sophisticated hallway or alcove.
