A Pair of Silver Tefillin Covers by Bezalel, Jerusalem Circa 1925
Located in New York, NY
A Very Rare Pair of Silver Tefillin Covers made by Bezalel in Jerusalem, Circa 1925. The Acid-etched technique with which these tefillin covers were made accompanied by the classic Bezalel design is truly remarkable. Featured on the outside of the four sides of the tefillin covers are beautiful chased motifs of grape clusters on hanging vines, pomegranates growing on trees, palm trees with hanging date clusters, and fig bushes with figs sprouting from their branches. Bazooka Joe Striking Acrylic on Paper Drawing
Located in New York, NY
This acrylic painting on paper by the Israeli artist Bazooka Joe is a striking, surreal composition that merges pop culture, symbolism, and psychedelic aesthetics. The scene unfolds against a vivid green background, with figures and objects outlined in stark black, creating a bold contrast. The central figures appear to be a pair of fantastical, almost punk-inspired characters. The one on the left has exaggerated facial features, black star-like face paint reminiscent of KISS band members, and an elaborate black headdress with a polka-dotted bow. Their outfit combines patterns, spikes, and surreal bodily distortions, including tentacle-like appendages emerging from the arms. The figure on the right sports a yellow headpiece...

His Personal style always remained classic modern -- his objects emphasize streamlined Design and graceful contours. In the late 1920s, Gumbel studied to be a silversmith at the school of applied arts in Berlin At the Kunstgewerbeschule. Following his studies, Gumbel was employed at workshops In Düsseldorf and Stockholm, as well as in the family factory in Heilbronn. It was there that Gumbel began to design hand-made silver pieces in the modern style. Simultaneously, He produced Jewish ritual objects like a Chanukah menorah or candlesticks.
