We are delighted to offer for sale this exceptional 19th century Victorian carved walnut four-seat conversation chair, or tête-à-tête, a wonderfully theatrical piece of period furniture designed to allow four sitters to converse while facing in opposing directions. The unusual quatrefoil-shaped arrangement is centred by a beautifully carved and upholstered structure, with sweeping open arms and richly carved scrollwork creating an impressive sculptural silhouette from every angle. The walnut frame displays particularly accomplished carving throughout, including bold scrolling arms, foliate ornament, pierced details and a finely carved central floral boss. The four oval upholstered back panels and generously shaped continuous seat are finished in traditional floral tapestry-style fabric with coordinating trim, complementing the warm colour and rich patina of the timber beautifully.
