By GamFratesi Design Studio, Gebrüder Thonet Vienna GmbH

TARGA is a family consisting of an elegant two-seater (160 cm) or three-seater (200 cm) sofa, an armchair and a pouf, four elements which perfectly fit contract spaces designed for an intimate and secluded atmosphere, as well as non-conventional residential environments. 19th Century Austrian Biedermeier Mahogany Sofa
Located in Paris, FR
Austrian Biedermeier-period sofa crafted of mahogany veneer, upholstered in beige fabric with geometric motifs. This refined piece of furniture has rolled armrests decorated with twisted patterns and medallions, and large backrest highlighted with scrolls and palmette. The sofa rests on four square fluted legs. The Biedermeier period began in the states of the German Confederation and in the Austrian Empire in 1815 (Congress of Vienna) and ended in 1848 (March Revolution). The Biedermeier style referred mainly to the decorative arts, but also included sculpture and painting. In contrast to the opulence and heroism of Napoleon's Empire, the Biedermeier style promoted calm and simplicity. From 1830 onwards, it embodied a new, comfortable, bourgeois way of life. In furnishing, the emphasis was placed on the structure of the furniture that had robust and geometrical forms, softened by curves. The simplicity of the materials, mainly light woods, was compensated by the variety and exuberance of the forms the backrests of the seats were carved in fan shape, the armrests of the sofas rolled...

Wiener Werkstätten Castell Hans Hopfer Sectional Sofa Group, Austria, 1972
By Wiener Werkstätte
Located in Vienna, AT
Rare 'Castell' leather sofa group by Hans Hopfer, Wiener Werkstätte, Austria, circa 1972 Well preserved sofa all in original vintage, super preserved condition. Normally these are destined to have been rather worn out throughout the last 50 years, whereas this ensemble hasn't. The light brown leather is still in wonderful, smooth condition with no major blemishes, a beautiful patina and minimal partial staining. It can be combined in various positions and constellations, be it as large single sofa with large chair and ottoman or as an ensemble. It's wrapped in leather all around. The long 'sofa' with the back cushions however should be placed against the wall as the middle part has got 3 loose cushions. It's marked at the reverse of the upholstery (Wiener Werkstätten...

Johannes Spalt 'Constanze' Sofa Daybed in Black Leather and Steel
Located in Waalwijk, NL
Johannes Spalt for Wittmann, sofa or daybed, leather, chrome-plated steel, Austria, 1960s. This mid-century modern sofa is designed by the acclaimed Austrian furniture designer Johannes Spalt. The design is characterized by a solid construction based on sharp lines and angular shapes noticeable in the body of the seat and the chromed steel base, underlining the clear structured design. The metal legs elevate the seat in a graceful way, which establish an open and more transparent look to the whole unit. The tufted seat with buttons is upholstered in black leather. As outcome, this creates more visual interest and adds a graphical touch to the quite simplistic design. By only one hand movement the 'Constance' transforms from a comfortable sofa to daybed. A very elegant and also nifty technique. Johannes Spalt (1920-2010) was a postwar Austrian architect. In 1952 he founded the collective "Arbeitsgruppe 4" together with Wilhelm Holzbauer, Friedrich Kurrent and Otto Leitner. Their ideas and designs are still a great example of Austrian architecture...
